Gigamap editors
Dusty has made a nice utility programm called newmap.exe which creates empty gigamap.
You can download it there : http://home.san.rr.com/dustyr/download/newmap.zip

At the same time, I've looked through civ2map.exe of Civ2 Multiplayer and managed to get rid of the 10'000 squares limit. That is that now, you can create empty or random maps up to 32'767. It is very convenient, especially for the random ones.
The only problem is that, I've modified a registered programm and not made one of my own. I wonder if this is legal ... I'm going to ask Apolyton if they accept it.
But it was so simple to modify and seems to work so fine that I don't understand why the guys at Microprose didn't modify it themselves. Maybe they just forgot ...

Sned me that copy please, Julius. If you made a patch for the map editor then I think it's completley within the bounds of the law. (At least in America where the software was published. )

Thanks JCarkey for the legal advice. I'm waiting for the answer of the guys at Apolyton. I've sent the prog to you. Please do not send it to anyone yet.

Today I have finished my modifications of the civ2.exe programms, both multiplayer and ToT. I've modified three things :
a) they can now generate random maps up to 32767 squares.
b) the amount of gold is not limited anymore to 30'000 or any other number.
c) the population is unlimited too (you can go over 320'000'000)

Do you also believe it would be legal in the Usa, or elsewhere, to send it as a patch. Of course, it doesn't work without the cd-rom and without many other files, but it's the main program ...

Thank you for sharing your opinion, if possible with some argumentation.

I don't know the law that well, but I think it would be okay if you published a patch. And if you have any doubts talk to Microprose.

Seeker, the "patch" isn't really a patch but it is the program for Civ2Map editor just changed. It could easily be made into a patch though.

You can send me civ2map.exe or whatever, I'll save the original in another directory, and try it out. I know it isn't a real patch, but the end result is the same.

Thanks JCarkney for not distributing it yet. I'll take my decision in a few days at max. And I am glad to have learned that it works well.
