You'll either like it, or hate it, I can't do both, sorri

I must have done about 10 different types, this is the best it's gonna look

Thanks for your effort, Sn00py. It's hard to tell here how effective it is. (I haven't received the game yet, even though I ordered an LE from the cursed distributor, EB Games, two months ago, but that's another story.)

Why do you say it's a love or hate thing? Perhaps the problem is that when you add crops to the irrigation it starts to look kludged. It seems you've tried to strike a compromise between the Firaxis basic (irrigation without crops) and something seasonally adjusted (green and brown crops).

Would you care to post your other attempts so we can try to help you out?

yep after about 10 tries, I decided to just put square coloured farms around the original irrigation and it seemed to work best.

Every other type was just either, too big, wrong colour, wrong lighting, too much colour, etc

this one works best

the reason I say that 'love or hate it' is coz some ppl may prefer the original (I know a few ppl who do)

I think you did a good job on the irrigation. Maybe the problem is that the roads are so crude - I mean, from the air, you never see black lines on either side of a road, like it's been DRAWN in! Roads look more etched.

So - maybe if you worked on the appearance of roads, everything might start to blend together more naturally.

One thing I can see is that you face enormous challenges in keeping colour/scale/lighting/perspective and design all in order. Once one thing is out a fraction, the whole lot can look garish. Howver critical we've all been of Firaxis' design, you've got to admit they've achieved an admirable harmony.

It looks great, but I'm assuming that we don't get to build 'farmland' in this game like in civ2? I'm not that far along yet, but this kind of looks like civ2 farmland.

Hey Snoopy,

How do you add an animated avatar? I know that you have to wait until you've been at Apolyton for 1 year or have 1000+ posts, but how would you add something like a Paratrooper shooting its gun (from civ3)

you'd need a program that can open flc files and export them as animated gifs

The problem I found is that farmlands/irrigation looks the way it's gonna look, there is just no way to make it look good on the map.
I've tried potato plants, tried to make it look like the canterbury plains (where I live, which is basically just COVERED in diff colour farms). I've tried all sorts of other things.

And as I was about to give up, I decided to use the original gfx and put some farms around it and make it look irrigated a bit, and in my opinion it's the best look civ has had so far, even tho there are a few colours I'd like to change

there's also nothing I can do about the farm overlapping the coast
