Just something that I am interested in knowing....
I have a seperate area in my civ2 file that I can integrate for my style game, a few of the changes are that I have added a few more units, changed the names of other ones, deleted others and screwed with the tech tree so it is longer, and also so that a few of the less desiarable names, such as Leadership (Imperialism in my game) have been changed.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has changed Civ to their liking, and what they have done, maybe I could pick up on a few of these ideas.

Well, I play ToT now, but I used a custom rules.txt file with original civ2, made up with various ideas borrowed from the net. I should have it somewhere, I can send it. I think it's easier.

In my original Civ 2 ( i use MGE now ) i created a new tech called "Advanced robotics", prerequisite Space Flight and Robotics, that allowed a new "Mobile suit" unit - inspired from Gundam series.
I still have this modpack somewhere, but it's written in italian. If you want i can send it to you...
A tip: avoid to change the rules.txt in a weird way... results are impredictable...

I usually alter Alpine Troops to have similar defence ratings to Riflemen. It just annoyed me how a tropical city could build Alpine Troops and suddenly have a higher defence because their men were arsing around in silly winter gear...

Oops! 63 units must use 63 definition lines!

As long as the RULES.TXT remains within "expected" limits, you shouldn't have any tough surprises.
What i find the most interesting is the following manipulations;

- Resources amounts (FST's) to make, example, a REAL golden mountain with 10 arrows worth of commercial value!
- Modern races grouped together (1 to 7 OR 8!!)
- Wonders unaffordable (200 shields or MORE!)
- Barbarians asking huge bounty to spare your capital!
- An impossible UFO to shoot down with stealths... i mean a lot of planes!!
- Let the fundamentalist research a little more.
- Give a democracy 15 free offensive units.

And, you got yourself a GAME... That's what is so great about the design, it gives US the power to configure as WE like.

I've renamed the SETI Program as Silicon Valley. Mind, I like SETI (I've got the SETI@home client), but maybe Silicon Valley is less visionary. So far, the SETI has been just a matter of gathering data here and there in the sky.

Unfortunately, I can't point out a good icon for S.V.

LOL! Couldn't agree more! Actually as well as knocking down Alpine Troops I add a Machine Gunner unit (preq Machine Tools, not obsolete) with the pikemen flag. This really brings an end to horse mounted warfare, just like the real machine gun did.
