Possible to implement canals/bridges?
One thing I was quietly hoping for in Civ3 was some way to cut canals and construct bridges to connect islands and continents. Didn't get that this time out, obviously, but then I started wondering, might it be possible to mod a unit that can change map terrain on the fly? I was thinking it might be cool if an Army could do that - these great leaders and vast armies could be put to work during peacetime undertaking massive engineering projects (kind of a Corps of Engineers effect). Be great if it could cost a big chunk of money per square, too. Wouldn't be as ideal a solution as a true canal or bridge, but being able to simply "lower" a square of land down to sea level or vice versa would do the trick.

Anyway, I've never worked on a mod project before and haven't the slightest idea whether or not the game engine could do something like this... but man, would I be thrilled if someone pulled it off!
