Random Maps?
I'm still deciding about purchasing the game, and the following would help...does Civ3 generate random or customizeable maps (climate, age, etc.) the way previous civs did? The civ3 site says it comes with 2 earth maps...is this 2 types of sizes, or just 2 maps of earth (no other maps or map generators included). I realize there is a map editor, too, but I would like some "unplanned" maps to challenge me.

Civ3 comes with endless number of random maps just like in Civ2. The map generator works in the game & the editor.

You might want to check some of the screenshots here at Apolyton, one shows exactly the "planet options" you have (more or less the same as before, in CivII ).
And by the way, the new map generator seems able to create more acceptable continental masses and shapes, in comparison to Civ2 interwoven ribbons of land and sea.
