Map Needed
I need a good map. It should include:[*]Tunisia (preferrably all of it)[*]Algeria as far westwards as Algiers (not more!)[*]Libya up to the Cyrenaica (not more!)[*]Sicily[*]Sardinia[*]Italy up to Rome in the north.
The easternmost frontier should be the centre of the Adriatic Sea-nothing of Greece should be included!
Try to make it as large as possible as the Map Editor allows (no hex-editing, please) and very accurate and very detailed. If it is somehow possible to you, try to make it look like it did in 800 AD. Extra terrain may be used.

This will not be a scenario about Rome or Carthage. Guesses are welcome.

@ Cpt. Nemo: A WW2 battle in 800 AD?

@Stefan: I will give making that map a try but I cannot promise you anything. Usually takes about 5 attempts for me...

I sense a vague Muslim sound in the air... Saracen pirates, Stefan?

PS If so, currently I'm working on arabic source of the area... feel free to ask ( especially about Sardinia ).
Anyway... this is a very useful site, full of links.

Eh... no
I like your "I want to believe" opinion though

Great! If you need a map of the area...

Yes... as far as some say. I don't believe they were pirates, they just plundered Roma
Is the name Ibrahim ibn al-Aghlab a term to you?
Oh yes, some info about Sardinia (but also Sicily) would be very cool. I only have just about one page of history, a good map, a good timeline and some pages about the architecture of the specific people.

I knew... the Aghlabites dinasty and the Sicily conquest.

Yes, I know him, and even better his f****d generals. We really hate them here in Sardinia . But we killed a lot of their warriors ... As an arabic historician wrote once, "Gli arabi... le diedero, le buscarono, e quindi se ne andarono" ( "They came, they were overwhelmed, so they escaped quickly" )

Sites: there are several websites about sardinian history... try Sardegna@ history section ( the Sanluri battle site - in XV century between Aragonese and Sardinian - is a must )....

Books: try to find "gli Arabi in Italia", Garzanti Editore, for Sicily's conquest, or R. C. Raspi, "History of Sardinia", Mursia Editore ( his early Sardinian Judicates historical reconstruction is simply monumental, even if a bit antiquate ... )... If you can't find them in German and/or english versions use the whistle...

PS What exactly are you interested to know about Sardinian history? Dinastic names? Main cities? Economics? Armies? Just ask... and don't forget St Augustine church in Cagliari...

PPS I forgot to mention it... Aghlabites relations with Amalfi were a lot important for Southern Italy commerce and history... My university Medioevel history lessons were about Amalfi.

Sure Stefan, if you have a map-picture you can send me by email that would make my job a lot easier. Otherwise I would have to work from an atlas and that makes it take even more time...

I love this period. 800 A. D.? hmmmmmm. Several contenders come to mind from this region; (as mentioned), the Aghlabid Emirate based in Tunisia, the Byzantines in eastern Sicily, Sardinia & southern Italy, the Normans based on Benevento, the Idrisid Caliphate in the western mahgreb, the Umayyad Emirate in Spain. Who else? This sounds like a great scenario. I'd like to hear more about.

Salutations,
Exile

I'm planning to use following civs:

Aghlabids (whom the scenario will be about to make things clear )
Byzantines
Papals (Rome-based)
Benevento
Neapolitans
Fatimids (of importance later on)
Sardinians (perhaps, I read they were self-governing).

Exile: Sure, I'll keep you uptdated by eMail if you want. But it will take a while, I haven't finished the rules yet, not to mention graphics etc. You can playtest it later on, I believe it will be ready by mid-January.
But I think I will make a great leap forwards this weekend.
And since Christmas holidays are coming up, expect the scenario by February.

Stefan, it proves to be more difficult than I thought to make that map. In the first two try-outs I got all the proportions totally wrong. You said that you had a picture of a suitable map, could you please send it to me? It would make the process a lot easier!
