Check Intelligence of Rivals?

Is there a way to check intelligence of your rivals, like you could in Civ2?

I have an embassy and everything but other than investigating each and every city, is there any way to get an idea of what their power is like, their culture, etc.

Planting a spy gives you access to their military data. Not sure about the other information.
