I'm getting the impression this game is not a worthy successor to civ I and II
That's why I'm not buying the release edition. Let them fix all the bugs and gameplay imbalances first. And add MULTIPLAYER.

Ahh, it's okay. It's what I hoped it would be, and it's what I feared it would be. In other words, clever & innovative features, along with some serious drawbacks.

This was predictable as soon as it was known that there would be only "in-house" testing, thus assuring that there wouldn't be any stop-ship bugs brought to management's attention (if the testers knew what was good for them).

Too bad. But it'll be a really great game six months to a year from now.

I guess you won't have the need to download the patch then, eh? Oh well, more bandwidht for us.

I too am under the same impression and have yet to make my deposit into the Bank of Firaxis. I'm waiting for patches and MP as well.

What I have a hard time with are the people cheering the game when, from what I've heard, there are some serious bugs -- like the airpower-SAM thing in particular. The lack of MP has also wrecked havoc on my appreciation for the Sid legacy and should they proceed to offer it in a expansion only type scenario, well, I'll turn my attention to Masters of Orion III and take my business elsewhere.

Let's keep our fingers crossed.

The ironic paradox of this whole buisness is that the only ones complaining about excessive bugs are those who don't own the game.
Being one who has throughly played the game for a solid 2 weeks, I can happily report there being no serious gameplay-disrupting bugs. Lack of MP is unfortunate to be sure, but it too shall come in time.

Don't give up on us baby...
It has the POTENTIAL to be a worthy successor - but the changes required may be more than Firaxis is willing to make.

We'll see. Don't give up on it yet, for all the really bad things, there are a couple really nice touches. They can correct the bad and make it a very very good game.

I disagree. I have been one of the biggest complainers about corruption, and I've played the game heavily.

However, I don't care for MP, and I'm certain that the corruption bug and air unit bugs will be fixed. Also, I'm pretty sure they will resolved the scenario editor issues.

Otherwise, I still think it's the best of the Civ line. I remember the initial bugs in Civ2 and the heavy patching that went on with that game.

Now if they would only add SETI Contact as a victory condition.

Agree completely. This is what I thought TOT would be... Nicer graphics and maybe an update to the game mechanics or two...

That's what I'm hoping. It seems they are getting the SPer's who bought the initial release to do the playtesting for them. This single player version is really no better than a beta you pay for.
