Too few turns and a little rapid science
I have played for hours and hours now and I have some suggestions for making the game a better game.

My experience so far are that science are too fast and units become obsolete to fast, also units sometimes take to long to build. So before I manage to build a large army to attack my enemies my units are obsolete.

A solution for this is to increase the time needed to research advances and slightly increase the time to build city improvements. You could also lower the cost of building units some.

In my latest game I played on a standard map with six other civilizations. Every civ had about fifteen to twenty cities. I could build normal units like one every five turn in my best cities (five or six of them). By the time i built a sizeable army I had to upgrade them to better units. The game just doesn’t give me enough breathing space to wage war.

It’s a little too easy to just conquer by culture instead.

You can change the science advance rate in the rules editor. Give it a try and see if the game is more enjoyable to you that way.

He's probably just giving his opinions for when future multiplayer is established or perhaps for the tweaking Friaxis is currently doing in SP.

This varies from person to person, but for me I agree with you.

I think culture is about right, but since the AI doesn't know how to attack or defend with culture it does make conquering by culture easier.

Yes, I have tried to edit the game now, currently testing som modifications.

Cheaper units, more costly to research tech and build city improvement.

This gave both me and AI the ability to wage war more often, I have also made defence a little stronger for units to compensate some.

One question though, how do I change the year increments, anyone who knows?
