nah, you can slow the Neutral Alliance down with events, and take them the settler building ability

You're right. There aren't enough civs to go around if you break them up, so they have to be weakened by changing the rules. Alternatively, just make them all barbarians.

UPDATE

received interesting idea on tzhe conquistador problem. scenario wotk will start as soon as I finished the friggin history project for school

anyone has good ideas about the technology tree? which (Renaissance) techs should be included to make it realistic? any suggestions welcome

How about renaming Magellan's Expedition to School of Navigation and giving it to the Portuguese.
Also special units like Francis Drake(higher attack and defence then ordinary ship) and Henry Hudson(more movement then ordinary ship).
