Are cities considered "irrigated" ?
Last night I acquired small city one square east away from a river, I irrigated the square to the west to "connect" it, I then found (by accident) I could irrigate a square to the NE even though it was not adjacent to another irrigated square, or river, or fresh water, and yes I know diagonals count too.

Basically, the only answer was that the city square becomes irrigated too.

This might go some way to explain how the AI manages to create so many irrigated squares from so little sources.

I found that if you have it next to an irrigated or fresh water square, it will become irrigated.

You can't, however, build cities in the desert and irrigate off them....

wish ya could though

If the city is on a hill, the irrigation will not pass through the city. If it is on any other terrain, irrigation through the city works.
