Global Warming Warnings

Can anyone tell me how I know if there is a global warming problem before it happens? I've had a yellow sun in my box ever since b4 factories so I thought that couldn't be it. I only had about 5 pollution splotches on the screen and a few turns later, whammo i lost a plains hex.

AFAIK, the sun can appear any time after the start of the third age (Reniassance?) You certainly don't need factories for pollution to show up, as it is a result of excessive production. This often happens to my cities that are surrounded by mines.

Turn some of the populace into tax-men or scientists to reduce pollution and get secondary bonus of more money/science.
