Newly Registered Wants to Play
Greetings, all. The name is Psybermagus. I'd like to play SMAC or SMAX by email. I used to play last winter with some folks on ICQ, but I haven't been on it in a while. Anyway, I'd love to join an email game as soon as possible. Please contact me at psybermagus@earthlink.net.
Cheers!

Heah Psybermagus,
welcome aboard Apolyton! I'd love to get a game started! I play Gaian typically, but will consider other factions if there's a conflict. Are you up for multiple turns a day? Also, how many people do you want in this game: do you want a Head to Head, or are you looking for multiple players (typical seems to be 4 players a game, as more than this slows down the turn ratio, and I'm sure we can scrounge up 2 more relatievly quickly for a 4 player)?
My E-Mail address: dnandal@twcny.rr.com
Look forward to hearing from you, and once again, welcome to Apolyton!
Darsnan

Hi. I'm new here also, though I have been lurking for several months or so on the SMAC/X forums here. Was just waiting for someone to start a new MP game to join in. I typically play University, though I'm not adverse to playing the Cyborgs occasionally if it's SMAX and there's a conflict. I wouldn't consider myself that good truth be told (Best I've done was a Trancend victory on Librarian, OCC, Iron Man), but I'm a fast learner. I'd easily be able to cope with multipule turns a day, so if you wouldn't mind having me, I'd love to play. My email's archaiceternal@hotmail.com .

New Player Wants New Game
thanks, both, for replying. I'm really up for it...let's get one more person on board...i'm happy to take Morgan, Lal, Miriam or Yang, in that order (since you both prefer Deirdre and Zakharov).
If we start today, it'll have to be a SMAC game (my SMAX CD-Rom is at the office, which I'm not at today thankfully because of the late great Martin Luther King, Jr. (who changed the world for the better!! just had to throw that in in his honor). Tomorrow, i can start up a SMAX game if you like... if SMAX, i can play Pirates, Datatech, or Drones...
I look forward to hearing from you. What other means of communications over the Internet do you use? I have MSN Instant Messenger, but can also download ICQ again... cheers!

I knew that lurking would come in handy. The link at the bottom of the topic I've linked to should send you to a page with a handy no CD patch for your game. Since you own the CD, everything's legit.

I'm on MSN, same address as I posted earlier.

Running SMAX without the CD
THAT IS SO COOL! thank you... i always wondered why the complete install still required that i insert the CD-Rom. Now i know. Yes, i sympathize...running SMAX on my laptop just garbled up the battery power, which sucked! Did you also notice how much LONGER it takes to load up SMAX? Almost four times as long as SMAC. What's the deal with that? Is it because if allows you to launch both games from the same platform? still, even when you select SMAX from the two choices, it still takes forever.
i've downloaded the patch, and will install it when I get my SMAX cd-rom back from the office tomorrow. thanks!

Ok, sign me up. I usually play University, but just for fun, I'll play anything this time out. Peacekeepers could be fun, or maybe drones. Whatever works best for the game. nickistca@yahoo.com
Thanks for the tip on the cd crack patch, it'll be handy for all the times I have to load the game to play my turns.

We now have 5 players, and I think this is enough. I am setting up game parameters now, and will forward the game to Psybermagus once the game is set up.
The following parameters apply to this game:
SMAC
Huge Planet
Ocean: 30-50%
Weak erosive forces
Average native life
average cloud cover
AI: Talent
Standard rules
Pre-contact tech trading is OK (anyone object?), otherwise Standard Apolyton PBEM rules apply.
Factions are as follows:
Psybermagus: Morgan
Archaic: UoP
wgabrie: Belivers
arborman: Peacekeepers
Darsnan: Gaians
Now comes the tough part: what to name our turn tracking thread. Any input, let me know, and I can set up the thread, or, since Psybermagus initiated the game, he can create the name.
p.s. this thread is now closed other than to post for our turn tracking thread, as well as getting E-Mail addreses for forwarding turns.
See you all on Planet!
Darsnan of the Green Meanies!

I'd prefer no "contact before contact" if that's alright with everyone else.
For us newbies, what are the standard PBEM rules?
Next up, Morganites.

MY2101 turn to wgrabie
emailed turn to wgrabie (Miriam)
so, i like the idea of naming the turn thread "Pentagon Tracking Thread", so go ahead and change it...
boy, at this rate, these PBEM games take forever... it hearkens back to the days of chess by post...
hee hee
do we typically email the turns directly to each other, or should we send them here to the thread?

Actually its wgabrie, not wgrabie (sure sounds like fighting words to me, eh "wgrabie"? ).
Since there's 5 of us playing, I like "Brotherhood of the Pentagon Turn Tracking Thread" better. Everybody want to vote on it, and then I'll start the thread according to what the people want?

i wholeheartedly support Brotherhood of the Pentagon (sounds sinister to me!) i like i like...
also, i presume there is a way to search for a thread title from the control menu here? no?
finally, please run through the PBEM thread posting rules for us newbies.
cheers.

Sounds fine to me.
Once we've finished this first turn and set our passwords, then we'd start putting the turns up here as attachments, right? That seems the easiest way to work things.

Actually, you save the turn with the name of whoever your forwarding it to, zip it, then E-Mail it to the next person. FYI.
