Sid Gives Patch Info!
(for SimGolf )

Why can't this be done for Civ3? Any ideas?

Quote:
SimGolfians,
We are hard at work on the SimGolf patch, hope to have it in to QA early next week. Here are a few things which will certainly be in the patch:

- Remove 50 year limit (what was I thinking?)
- More frequent visits by I.M.Picky.
- a better system of placing landmarks.
- the ability to cancel a tournament or match.
- more cash if J.P.Bigdome likes your course.
- fix for the "toilet bowl" firm fairway problem.
- add Animals/No Animals to the preferences.

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions. We'll try to get as many more into this patch as possible.

It would be helpful to us to get savegame files for problems which you encounter. We are setting up an e-mail address for this purpose: gophers@firaxis.com A brief description of the problem would be appreciated as well as the relevant .sve file from the your /saved games folder.

When we made this game we really weren't sure whether players would prefer the course building part of the game, the tournaments and competions, the personalities of the golfers, or the customizing features. It seemslike all these aspects of the game are getting a lot of play - which is great.

Here's a feature of the current game which I don't think is documented - you can hit the keys 1-9 (top row of keyboard) to jump to that hole. If the hole is already on the screen, this will bring up the hole report. Press the keys shift 1-shift 9 to jump to holes 10-18 on the 'back nine'.

- Sid
Hey, I actually like SimGolf believe it or not and am happy to see this kind of support, but what about Civ3!!!!???

Maybe if you bought civ 3 Firaxis could afford a PR budget for both games?

LOL! Good idea. Let me check it out...hold on.

...picks up red phone on desk labeled 'Sid'...

"Hallo! Sid here."

"Sid, Yin."

...Sid yells in background: 'Hey, shuttup folks! Yin on the line!' Various alarms sound and warning lights go off...

"Yes, sir. Sir Yin, I mean, Mr., umm. Yes?" *nervous cough*

"Calm down Sid. It's O.K. That golf game of yours put me in a good mood. The Hail Mary paid off. Amazing."

...Sid nearly faints with joy...

"Anyway, Sid. I got this great idea from the forums. The idea is I buy Civ3, which might be enough for you guys to budget the kind of PR for Civ3 that you got cookin' for SimGolf. Check it out. Now."

...papers shuffle...quick calls are made...

"Yin, Your Honor. It ummm, it aaahh, t-t-t-turns out that your, um, $50 would earn us about $2. Barely enough to power on my monitor."

"I see. That's what I thought. Well, then, as soon as you guys can afford it, have somebody post stuff about Civ3. Got it?"

"Absolutely."

And somewhere in a parallel universe yin is calling up Firaxis and explaining he's not going to buy their game unless they make the improvements he desires, and they're jumping for joy about the $2 they can make if they give in to his demands.

Oh, the irony.

Yin - great post... I just had to look.

Of course, I don't really feel duped for looking; it is a bit frustrating that SimGolf is getting Sid's undivided attention, while the franchise that made his name famous doesn't get anywhere near that sort of TLC...

No, I don't presume that there will never be another patch or expansion... but I am a little jealous that SimGolf gets a personalized press release from Sid saying, in effect, "I have felt your anguish, and I am working to assuage it expeditiously."

Come on, Sid, baby... where's the love?

I wonder if Civ III is all that bad. I just found out something about the game, and I think that CIVIII is not all that bad.

Maybe a couple of things.

Wonder if anyone has asked why the human player is always trying to catch up.

An Example.

An AI CIV demands or wants to trade your territory map, and in my scenario, that goes on a lot with them.

They are always asking or demanding, including a small fee also to them.

In the same screen, if you agree to provide the map with a small fee to them, if they have any techs ahead of the human player, you can then ask them what they want for that tech?
Usually it will be some small fee, in the beginning like 40 gold coins, or less -- 19 for one.

Another thing is some AI leaders will start wars to get a great leader to build a tech faster, to try and catch up with other AI CIV that are building Wonders, -- maybe faster.

I really do not think that CIV III is that bad, it has more interaction, but I do not think that some people playing the game are finding out "how to play the game".

If you are not playing the game, then, that is your fault, not Firaxis!
