Yin. I read your post the same way Ming did, the first time I read it. As a shot at the players who are soldiering on.

Ming. I read Yin's post the way he says it the second time I read it.

Firaxis. here's a carrot, now keep pulling the code along.

Yin. You got virtual balls getting into a p*ssing contest with Ming the merciless in his own thread. But, then again, you wouldn't lose much from a week or two off would you? More time with your family.

Maybe it's just me.

Now you two can both jump me.

Well, if you also mis-read my post the first time, I can see where Ming migh have, also. Ming: Can you agree that you mis-read my first post? If you can, I can agree to get out of your thread here.

SimGolf time? Sounds perfect!

You are the funny one here. You think that just because you say something, it's the truth.
As far as the carrot and stick, I probably used that in one of my journalism pieces before you were born... so that insult is even funnier.
It's all a matter of opinion. You are welcome to yours, and I'm welcome to mine. If you really look at the thread without your rose colored glasses (hey, do you understand that phrase, I can provide a link if you don't) you would see what other people will see.

So laugh all you want... the sound of laughter is probably always near you

Well, now you've dug yourself the most rediculous of holes. You now claim to understand the meaning of carrot and the stick and yet are so bold as to say that the English language morphs to fit your own joy of making threats?

Sorry, Old Timer. You're wrong. Sit down and ponder the feeling.

I wouldn't calling it miss reading your post. It's obvious that one can see it in many different ways... and since people aren't mind readers here (and if somebody is, please contact me because I have a business deal for you)

I see. So the thread had FIRAXIS in the title, by my comment means GAMERS. Brilliant.

Forget the mind reading. Stick with common sense.

I don't need to... It is obvious that I'm not the only one to take your comment the way I did. And I'm not Morphing the language.
One could see your use of the carrot and stick as "give them a little of what they are looking for, and the suckers will keep coming to us with more money"...

So again... I do understand the meaning...

Link.
Quote:
The debate has been confused from time to time by imagining one stick from which the carrot is dangled and another kept in reserve as a whip; but I imagine that the original image in the minds of those who developed this expression was a donkey or mule laden with cargo rather than being ridden, with its master alternately holding a carrot in front of the animal's nose (by hand, not on a stick) and threatening it with a switch. Two sticks are too many to make for a neat expression.

For me, the clincher is that no one actually cites the form of the "original expression." In what imaginable context would it possibly be witty or memorable to say that someone or something had been motivated by a carrot on a stick? Why not an apple on a stick, or a bag of oats? Boring, right? Not something likely to pass into popular usage.

This saying belongs to the same general family as "you can draw more flies with honey than with vinegar." It is never used except when such contrast is implied.
For somebody who supposedly wrote a paper on the topic, you must not have done your homework. I could care less how you or other people mis-read a standard English phrase. Read the definition above and get back to me. I know how *I*was using the phrase ... the accepted and standard way. How you twist it beyond that is your own unsupported business.

I'd also like to note that instead of looking up the accepted meaning, Ming, you have now carried on close to a full page of garbage when, supposedly, you wanted the thread to stay on-topic.

Which is where I started.

Uhhh... you may have posted a single post on topic... and again, using your own logic, I was on topic when I responded to Jimmy's post. So you were the one to start the personal insults and the spam. So... if you were right in your logic, you are wrong in your other assumptions. Unless you were wrong in your logic

Worst. Threadjack. Ever.

i'm surprised that neither of you have anything better to do than engage in a pissing contest over who's wrong about who spammed first, but whatever floats your boat.

Yep. I trooolled on in to a thread about how great Firaxis was to release a patch one day early, snuggled up to the bar stool, sat down and said: "Good work, but keep working."

CW: But have you ever seen a guy thread jack his own thread? This is why I am held spellbound. It's quite an amazing thing to see. Like a two-headed snake or something!

Again... with your logic, the threadjack couldn't have started with Jimmy's or my post...

so your line:
Quote:
Ming: If you were any drier, your legs would rub together and you'd catch on fire.
Was the start of the spam and threadjack.
And by the way, if you knew me, you would know that your comment isn't acurate.
My legs are thin (like sticks or carrots) not dry

Jimmy's comment was just supporting my on-topic post. Then:
Quote:
Gee, somebody who thinks that Yin's zingers are even original or good... Hard to take any opinion you have seriously after that
Spam. Who? Ming. Simple, really.

But it if makes you feel better, I'm more than happy to blame this all on jimmy. He's a trouble-maker, that guy. Frankly, the fact that he hid after the fight started proves he's a commie, too.

(...thanks for being the sacrificial lamb, jimmy... NOTE TO SELF: E-mail Ming the meaning of 'sacrificial lamb' before the thinks I'm cracking sex jokes)

It depends on the saturday... sometimes it's a duel... sometimes it's 4 or more, and other times... it's Civ III.

Anyway, if you put Ming and Yin in a SimGolf game, the result would be just like it was with Yin and Imran: Yin hardly working up a sweat on his way to a landslide victory!

Anyway: Good job, Firaxis, with the early patch release. Better job getting on the boards informing and discovering. But please keep working...long way to go still.

Ahhhh.... but if we were to play in real life, instead of on a computer... you would probably end up 7 down with 6 to play

And yeah... thanks to Firaxis...
But since this thread took a different turn, It might just be time to let it sink to the depths of page two... with a little help

ming: i'll be around to check it out, hopefully when we continue you'll have forgotten what you were doing, so i can pull ahead

yin: two strokes is hardly a landslide

and since we're getting back on topic, good effort from firaxis getting the patch out early and answering some questions
