Best way to reduce corruption
Go to the world sizes tab in CivEdit. For each size, increase the number of cities by 50%. Go to the difficulty tab and set the percentage of optimal cities to 100% for all difficulty levels. I've noticed that these second variable has a great effect on the amount of corruption your cities have.

Uh... doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of a higher difficulty level?

I don't really have any problem with corruption at all, not even before the patch. Sure, I have over 100 of cities in my empire and most of them produce 1 shield, but I don't care; I'm not too greedy! With the palace and the FP, I can build about 30 cities with good production rate; that's all I need to conquer the world.
