Leaders and Tanks
This may seem like a silly question but can you get leaders with Tanks???

I must have had about 50-100 Elite Tank victories and not got one yet.

Or is there a cap on leaders, so you cant get more than 12

You have 12 leaders?!?

At any rate, you can get leaders from any units that win combat, tanks included. I have gotten leaders from tanks before.

I was afraid you were going to say that you'd lost a tank attacking an enemy leader! ...Relief setting in...

16 leaders! That's gotta be a record, or close to it. What are you DOING, man?

From the sounds of it... War! All day, all night, on Roma TV! War till you drop. War till you... I guess you can fill in the blanks.

I had almost 20 leaders in one of my games, too. With modern armor itīs extremely easy to get them. With 20 elite modern armors, I got about 1 leader every two turns. I used the 4 last leaders to rush ICBMīs, since there was nothing else to build (I only built 1 army).

I'd be lucky to see 3 or 4 leaders in a game.
BTW, what happens if you take a city with a leader in it? I thought I saw one flash by during an conquest in one game, but I'm not sure. No: 'You killed Blahblah, the whatever's famous leader'?

I have gotten 5 leaders in a game, not more.

Kailhun: if you capture an enemy city with a leader in it, the Leader just dies, nothing else. Note that while the Leader has no defense value, it's killed, not captured. I wonder how did they do that...

I have never gotten more than 5 leaders in a game. I once played an entire game getting NO leaders, and I was warring like mad. just bad luck I guess. Hard to get leaders when all your elite dudes die and you win with green troops.

But I HAVE had 20 armies. just build the armies myself mostly.

Units capable of blitz (multiple attacks per turn) are GREAT leader generators. Ever noticed that if you take a veteran unit (say a Tank) and win two combats in a row, it becomes elite? Every time. Well, do that for a bit, using a few units you have set aside for the purpose - pick off those random AI longbowmen. You will quickly build up an elite corps. Then, keep using those elites in multiple combats per turn, and the leaders will be popping up everywhere.

I think my personal best for leaders is 8, as the Babs, followed by 7 as the Egyptians. Normally, though, it's between 1 and 4. I don't really play militaristic civs.

Uh well, I'm playing Civ III at a very slow pace, for many reasons (included a personal hate of some Civ III design choices, see Velociryx thread for many good examples).

Add to this my personal preference for Builder/Hybrid playstyle and you can see why I never had more than a couple of Leader available (regent level).

I got many leaders only once: during a game where I was losing so quickly that I gained a leader just the turn before the AI troops killed it I probably generate&lost five to six leader before I resign and quit the horror

Not a good score for an old Civ player, I'm afraid!

I feel the same way, I only got two last week (my first two... EVER!), and both were killed by the russians.

I've just finished a continental map playing Egyptians on emperor against 8 enemies. I killed every last one of them around 1770 AD.
I guess I've gotten about 13 leaders playing a non militaristic civ in a militaristic game. And yes, most of them appeared after tanks made their entry.

Been out all day, so I've only managed to play a couple of turns since I got in, but my leader count is now 18, I got 2 in my last turn.
