Anti-Aircraft Units
Hi all,

How can I create moblie AA Units (opposed to the SAM Missile Battery improvement)?

Scenario that deals with the Israel-Arab Conflict must deal with such units, as between 1967 and 1982 Egypt and Syria had superb AA capabilities. These AA capabilities were not followed by Armor or Infantry units - who remained inferior - so I can't just give an Armor unit exceptional AA defence points.

Thanks in advance,

Ebenezer

you can edit the rules.txt and toggle the flag (2nd from left) that gives the unit 2x defense against aircraft (as the Aegis does), and there's also the flag that allows the unit to attack aircraft in flight (5th from right).

And if you have Fantastic Worlds, you can do this by turning on Cheats then Turning on Scenario Editor then getting into the Unit editing mode and changing the specifications.

But don't give it a very high defense value if you give it the Figter flag, cause it will defend with it's attack vs. other air units...

*i think*

Toggling the "Can attack air units" flag will allow a ground unit to attack an air unit, but will not give it the scrambling bonus. That is, the air defense of the AA unit is not quadrupled unless it, too, is an air unit. Keep this in mind when setting your attack and defense strengths - an AA unit should still be vulnerable to land units.

Make your AA unit an air unit, and give most or all land units the "can attack air unit" flag. Keep fighters' range the same, they will be unaffected. The AA can then be attacked by land units, and it will also gain the special defense bonus against fighters and bombers.
