It doesn't have a single written constitution, but it's considered a constitutional monarchy because of it's unwritten traditions, and certain written documents like the Magna Carta and Bill of Rights (we don't need to argue over how democratic these really are, I know).

There are a large number of people I know who count the deaths of Margaret and the Queen Mum as "steps in the right direction". All of these people are British, and earning average to low wages, and have serious objections to the perceived parasitic nature of the British monarchy.

I've noticed that my American relatives tend to be much more interested in Royal affairs than my British friends. I guess kings and queens are pretty fascinating until you have to pay for their upkeep.
