The other thing about the Zylka episode is how poor his strategy really was.

J23SE had no trouble thwarting the attack and Zylka had no answer. Zylka was depending on total surprise and when his cover was blown he couldn't regroup his strategic thoughts. He just squandered all his resources and quit in disgust at his own failure I'd say.

But we really need Berzerker to post just how he spotted that tri of Zylka's. Was it as Markus suggests where you can sometimes see a unit move in the square two above or two below a city?

Give it a rest.

its also possible to see a unit diagonally on some maps. but if the last active unit was a diplomat all units are invisible, even if they are within the city radius.

I don't know how the session went, but I can explain what happened with regards to the Souix/Japanese conflict.

Zylka (Japan) begged for 1 more turn at the end of our last session claiming he had a border dispute to settle (uh oh, did he mean the more distant Russians or the peaceful nearby Souix?). This was after he moved what I believed were 2 triremes near my capital. I only spotted the movement as they passed through a square north of one of my cities. The repeated requests for another turn combined with Zylka's reputation as a warmonger and the arrival of triremes near my capital convinced me my capital was about to be attacked INSPITE OF OUR PEACE TREATY. Did you'll hear that? INSPITE OF OUR PEACE TREATY!

I asked Deity to inform the sub of the impending threat and to tell the sub to rush build a trireme in the city nearest the enemy. Short of that, blocking a landing was the only other defense. I understand accusations of cheating or unethical behavior have been made. I'm not sure why though, it is common courtesy for someone to try and give subs information about the previous owner's situation and I did tell Deity about what I thought Zylka was about to do. And I did ask Deity to tell the sub my thoughts and what might be done to stop or slow the impending invasion which included rush building a trireme in the nearest city.

Thx Deity, I should be here this Thursday night. I've done some work re-scheduling sacrificing another night to make Thursday available. I'm just glad my employer was amenable to the change

Zylka, Deity did nothing wrong. While I don't look forward to you resuming as the Japanese I hope you will see neither Deity or I did anything wrong. I know how angers can flare when the best laid plans of mice and men can...well, you know the proverb .

Yeah, the ship(s) I saw appeared outside the city's radius - the 1st diagonal just outside the radius I think. Cant really remember, I wasn't paying close attention and just caught a glimpse of a ship passing by. The lag and my lack of attention made it tough to know how many ships were sailing by.

Well, on second thought, I don't even know if they were outside my radius. Zylka knows better than me where exactly he sailed. I know he did try to avoid my city on the peninsula or I would have seen him hugging the coast more.

Great that you can be here this week. I'm desperately keen to keep this show on the road.

Raz is lined up as Romans but I'm really disappointed if DD doesn't continue. But Raz will certainly add classic and experienced diplo playing.. LOL Watch out everyone!

Either way we have a full line-up with J23SE as Japs.

We play 8pm USA EDT (or 8:30pm if DD plays).

Raz, That's 10am Friday in Aussie EST.

It might be interesting to post the number of techs we each have in this no tech trade or steal game.

My Cart DEITIANS have 25 techs.

And I've not yet built the ONE Wonder I'm allowed.

Here are the Wonders that the other civs have built...

I may be a bit late, around 8:30-8:45 EST I think. They are having a demo night at one of the local driving ranges and I do not miss those! A chance to swing some really expensive golf clubs.
I shouldn't be too late though...

The game goes on : 1540AD !!
A game that could have died has now hit 1540AD.. Wow.

Thanks to J23SE taking over the Japs and Dang came back to steady his Persian empire after a quick fling as the Romans but unfortunately they are running as AI now so if anyone wants to sub for them or take over let us know.

Markus, with GL, is steaming away in the techs stakes and although I'm first in pop he's on top of the pg. The others are making a good go of it in this interesting ONE Wonder, NO Tech trade game. My DEITIAN Carts finally plumped for Magellans as the most suitable Wonder:

Incidentally I've got 32 techs and getting a tech every two turns plus caras. I'd be interested in what the others are getting...

Top 5 in 1540AD:

DEITIAN Cart Demogs: 1540 AD
I've asked about this before but it's never been explained that I recall but why is it that the pg shows a civ in front that does not have the most pop?

I thought it might have been more techs but someone said that's not right.

Maybe it's because I have less cities and the pg takes account of the two starting squares of each city but the demogs do not?

I'd love to know. It's someting I should know but I don't!!
