Vel's Strategy Guide - electronic edition
Does anyone have any idea if Vel's Strategy Guide is still available on the web?

I searched for previous posts and found hints that there still IS a free (older) version available for download, but couldn't find it.

... oops, this link addresses only the main page of the Chironian Guild. More precisely, select the DATABASE section and you will find what you want.

Failing that check out Googlie's site Home of Spartan Chronicles

Goog's Site With Cool Stuff Here

I believe he has the old Vel strat guide there. Oops mistaken it has since been replaced with a link to the new guide for purchase.

OTOH, You can still access Vel's version 3.0 at his site

http://clik.to/renaissance

Go into the forums, then go to Alpha centauri discussion Strat and Tactics. Listed there is a thread with the entire set of postings that are Version 3.

Mongoose,

Your absotively right, Vel deserves compensation.

OTOH his sellable version is about SMAX. Ver 3 was SMAC. Not quite the same thing although enuff prolly can be learned from ver 3 to make a cheapskate think about skimping on the for sale version.

I'm assuming if Vel wanted to he would wipe his forum of Ver 3.

Og

By the by, Ver 4 is waaaayyyy superior to Ver 3.

Rush right out now and buy it!!! It will increase your knowledge 10 fold, add 50 points to your IQ, make you irresistable to the other sex, increase your earning potential, cures cancer, and is well on the way to solving world hunger. Buy Now!!!

Thanx
Thank you to all who were kind enough to answer my question.

About paying.. well I could, but I don't have a credit card and, even if I had, most Romanian credit card issuers (banks) are banned at Amazon and the likes, because... err of the problems they had with other... "customers" from my country.
Anyway, I just asked.. and should I be able to buy the guide (v4.0) in the future, I promise will

When I applied at booksurge, I got a ready and kind reply from a manager there, explaining how I could get the book by sending a cheque, as I don't have a credit card neither.
I even posted the indications in a thread about Vel's guid here, can't recall where and when tho.

Saw my name attached to a thread and couldn't resist the temptation to peek in and see what was up! Thought perhaps there were more download troubles (those of you who nabbed the e-version of the guide early on may remember that Booksurge had some funky problems with some of the downloads, revolving around an adobe plugin, IIRC).

Anyway, yes! By all means, make use of the free version (3.0) of the guide! In fact, when version 4.0 was released, I went so far as to declare all previous versions "in the public" domain and gave everybody who can still scare up those older editions to read, change, use, alter, and whathaveyou to their hearts' content!

But I gotta agree with Og....4.0 is a fairly steep improvement....

hey vel are you considering updating the old SMAC version for those of us who didn't buy the expansion? I know most of the same stuff would probably work but there are some differences....

Thanks a bunch!
