Andemagne
Here is the translation:
'I don't remember whether people in Rovaniemi speak swedish or finnish.
If you drive north from Rovaniemi, you come to Karasjok, where you can meet norwegian speaking people. If you drive north from Karasjok, you come to Alta where my first wife lived before we got married, and that was a very long time ago.'

Good question Scouse Gits [1]
If you want I can join and play, but I am a bit reluctant (is that an english word) to do it so far in the game.
Otherwise, shouldn't it be Andemagne

and here's what happened (in short):

*15 new cities (11 conquered, 4 build)
*epygtians started a war
*trie to sell all of those useless city cousils and
rhetoric schools.
*briped "a few" parthian cavalrys
(don't wöri, we still have LOTS of Gold)
*tried to organice the empire put I was unable
to reach what I wanted.....

dunno, to me the game looked kinnda messy,
maybe thats because this is a succession, and
when your turn comes you have try to figure out
whats happening and where..... ...but you can't

And LaFayette: sori that I screamed at you like that.
it was not the first time somebody tells me that people
in Rovaniemi speak swedish or norwegean.
karasjoki and alta are in norway, far, far north from rovaniemi.
is it true that your married to norwegean girl?

Thanks Andemagne - sounds like a good turn -- yes it is very difficult to pick up a succession game and not find that it has gone in a totally different direction than that in which you had carefully pointed it -- but this does add a certain something to the efforts -- perhaps we might try a future succession game in which we have a short (emphasize short) discussion between turns to formulate a strategy for the next turn and then in one's own turn you have to try and stick to that strategy???

1) Yes, I married the norwegian girl (very precisely in Oslo), but we didn't live in Alta after that (very precisely in Paris).
2) Yes, Alta is far north from Rovaniemi: I remember throwing snowballs there...in August .
3) IIRC there is a region of Finland where people mostly speak swedish ( isn't it around Turku?). That's why I asked.

That would be a kind of demo game IMO, and I would vote against it. Much of the fun in a succession game is the surprise when you have look at how bad the previous leader really was , and the necessity to define a new strategy to try and repair the terrific consequences of his mistakes.
(of course, I don't speak about troika here )

2) I've been throwing snow balls in june, but
not any more in august.

3) people living on those islands near maariananhamina

in Lappland second languege is Saami. it's a "relative"
languege to finnish (like spanish and italian to french).

yup! don't you just hate it when you discover that
the player before you have build wrong kind of units,
or lost lots of unit, or haven't build that road what was
needed, or have sold some city improvements that
you felt needed, or something else stupid.

well I know that that's the whole idea behind succession
games, that's what makes them more realistic.
I wonder how the german leader who's turn came
after WW2 felt?

maybe somekind of "father and son" kind of discussion
should be had? (reigning king telling his successor how
to be a good king(?)) dunno.

BTW: is someone/who is playing the game?

Perhaps that the Gits should say what Antigonus Sodak cannot do. Is there some sacking left
Does anyone remember the "Rhodes" affair
It is the fun of succession game

As for Rhodes - I will abandon the city so that the AI can retake it.

Actually, I hadn't started playing because Andemagne followed me this cycle... Remember that he had to delay his turn? I will play unless SG wants to continue our march to greatness.

(SG to LaFayette: Is he serious about abandoning Rhodes?)

Do you mind if I do the contrary, I mean being the successor AND the father giving advice after having had a look at the savegame (unfortunately I am probably entitled to do it since I am perhaps twice your age ):

Most of your cities are building aqueducts or other improvements: this makes me remember DaveV winning the Rome scenario in 43 turns after having sold all the improvements inside the cities conquered by his mighty Roman legions (and of course rushbuilt new legions with the cash)
This scenario is also a scenario of conquest and we have all the techs we need. Therefore we don't care having nice fat cities with lots of improvements inside.
WHAT WE NEED IS GUNS (+ logistics to bring these guns where they are needed).
In this game, guns means powerful cavalry that we can bribe (scythians or equivalent), and catapults + battering rams, because they ignore city walls (and almost any city on the map is walled).
Logistics means numerous engineers able to build those wonderful highways (equivalent to RR).
I don't mention the navy because I am convinced that the game can be played and won early without building more than a few transports able to deliver our precious commodities in Rhodes ( ). But those galleons are so good-looking that I shall build a number, in order to shell all coastal cities in the western part of the map.

well, I'm a Perfectionist, what can I do?

I'm playing a single player game of this same scenario
at the same time then this succession game. the year
in that game is something 20ad, and I have all the cities
build up to the maximum, and they produce more gold
then I can spend and more units than enemy can kill.
I'm conquering new cities allmost every turn, there are
only 4 enemys left (rome 3 cities, syria 6 cities, G. poleis
2 cities, carthage about 30 cities).

and in this succession game of ours the year is
something like 120bc, right? we can spend hundred
years to build up our cities and military, and then go to
offence. EVEN, IF we want to win fast we need big cities
building those vet. galleons (and other vet. units as well)
every third or fourth turn, 'cos carthage has STRONG navy,
believe me, I know.

and if you ask me: as in real life as in civ, quality of life
matters as well, not only who rules and who wins.
(and you can quote me on that )

aqueduct incident
I have just made the same mistake as the Gits made last week: namely look at what the preceding leader had done, instead of taking it as it was.
All kinds of gameplay are welcome in a succession game, and if Marquis feels like sacking Rhodes, he is perfectly entitled to do it, and if Andemagne feels like building fat cities he is also perfectly free to do so.
After all, in the real world, when the conservatives come to power after the liberals (and vice versa) they usually are somewhat unsatisfied with what the others did and try to act otherwise.
Please, Andemagne, build aqueducts!
I shall build mighty galleons and send the Carthaginian navy to the bottom , so that they never come too close our beautiful cities with numerous improvements inside.

(the Carthaginian admiral looking at La Fayette's fleet -mmh ...private joke)

There was never a discussion about how soon we needed to win the game, each ruler may do as he sees fit. Had this been a rush to win by a certain year, we may all have played differently. As it stands, this was just a succession game to play - ideally to win, but mostly just to have fun.

(le marquis wonders if andemagne noticed just how many improvements he sold...)

Anyway, the Macedonian empire has lived ten more years of its glorious history in the meantime.
Rhodes has been grown to size 12+ in order to make King Sgi III happy . Some improvements have also been built (mostly barracks and shipyards, I'm afraid ).
Some cities have been conquered:
1 Syrian city (Syrian civ destroyed)
9 Egyptian cities (Egyptian civ destroyed)
7 Greek Poleis cities (2 cities left)
4 Roman cities (9 cities left)
6 Carthaginian cities (16 cities left)

In short, this means 27 cities conquered during that decade, and 27 remaining 'foreign' cities.
Apart from the Barbarian city of Burdigala (today's Bordeaux), the whole map could probably be coloured light blue quite soon .
