i'll be different - i like the hoover dam a lot, so i'm gonna vote for it. of course the other wonders might be more useful, but i need the extra production that comes from a hydro plant in each city! and you can build solar plants on top of the hydros you get from the hoover dam. pretty groovy. (down with coal!)

for a small wonder, i have to say wall street for the simple reason that you can increase science spending. i like having 70% going to science, and can't do it without wall street. plus i don't think the forbidden palace should count as an option here.

Solar plants don't combine with hydro plants. They are not cumulative. So, building Solar Plants is a waste of time.

whaaaaat? are you sure? i thought i read somewhere that they ARE cumulative. well, if you build the hoover dam and a solar plant, they both appear in your city, so i don't see why they wouldn't both work together.

aw. dangit. i hope you're not right.

since this is a poll about favorite wonders, not necessary ones...

Hoover dam - i love the immediate increase in all my factories.

Heroic Epic - i also love having 3 armies fielded during an early middle ages campaign and the extra(?) leaders can be used to rush the important wonders in less productive cities after switching a prebuild to a university or something.

You can also build a coal plant after you build Hoover. But don't trust me try it. Build the Dam, look and see how many shields you are producing. Then build the Solar Plant and see if the shields increase. They won't.

I wish I wasn't right, too!

This is true in terms of shield output...but some of us mod the solar plants to also reduce pollution, which makes them better!

Great Library
Especially on higher levels. And is a real nuisance if it falls into AI hands.

Iron Works.

A neat ancient wonder that the AI doesn't put much priority on.

Iron Works
It's always a fun challenge to see how many shields you can get out of a city with this wonder.

Was Lawrence of Arabia being facetious?

Hmm.. GW is split. Monarchy and lower my favorite would be Hoover Dam. Emperor&Deity, it would have to be the Great Library and Sisteen Chapel as a close second.

SW - Iron Works.. provided that I actually have a city that can build the damn thing. Doesn't always happen

What about Battlefield Medicine? Would be nicer of course if we got it earlier.

Ok!
This mean I will have to withdraw my prevous vote for Forbidden Palace!

Let's see

Heroic Epic
Nice to have a few more leaders (read: wonders) during a game

Military Academy

Slightly modded, instead of victorious army prereq. of 5 Universities; to compensate for the lack of early wars (hehe-)-

Favorite Wonder = TOE
Theory of Evolution

Allows you to set science to Zero for 8-12 turns it takes to build during Industrial age. This can mean an extra 2500-3000 gold, as well as the two free advances!

Great: Adam Smith's Trading House.
Lotsa free $, just buy coliseums for

Small: If not FP, then Wall Street.
Allows an extra 10% science, or luxury, or both, while maintaining your income.

Great Wonder: I would go with Hoover Dam. This leads to very fast production in the modern era. It means fast unit production. Plus, you save production from not having to make the hydro plants! On top of that, they make less pollution than coal plants. What's not to love here?

Small Wonder: Not including Forbidden Palace, I would go for Wall Street. 50 gold per turn, AWESOME! This is usually much bigger than Smiths, unless you play on really big maps and build marketplaces and banks much more than you should be. Come on, compare Smith savings to Wall Street. In most normal size games, the street will earn you more money.

:sigh: People still think Smith is the best. Quit playing Civ 2!

Well I'm just a newbie but so far,

Great Wonder:
Hover Dam
I was going to say Theory of Evolution at first but after reading the response I remembered about Hover Dam. Free hydros in all cities, even ones that normally can not get a hydro.

Small Wonder:
Wall Street
All the extra cash lets you spend more on reaserch. Too bad its capped at 50 gold.

As a testament to my newbieness, I have never seen and have no idea what Iron works is so I'm going to look it up as soon as I'm done with this post.

EDIT:
I just looked up Iron works, pretty sweet but I'll still stick with Wall Street. Plus with my bad luck it will only show up in a city were all but one of my shields are corrupted.
