Somewhere around 310, I had finished it when I posted teh T73 one. I hope to get back to rerun the start. I just finished MM6 (again) and I am in the middle of a Civ3 run, so I have not forgotten. Those two were/are long games. Usually I am doing a one day or 2 day game like Moo1/2 or Heroes.

The biggest problem that I recall to getting the game doen in say 180 or so turns is trying to reach other races, even if you have say 6 BB's. You would need to conquer some planets just to get the range to reach them and travel to all of them seems prohibitive in that time frame.

Oh I forgot how bad those early planets were, most had no farming.

With irridium and a well timed op only need 1 or 2 ever you are fine. Those planets weren't good but 310 is obscene. You are in range relatively early of 2 races by the time you are midway into them you have irridium.

I can find it interesing to see how one may do a quick kill, but even if I could do it 100 tunrs, I would not. I would find that to be no fun after one or two runs.
I understand that in MP it is more of a do or die, but that is why it never appealed to me. I like to run the tech tree and grab lots of planets. I know sick. When I was child and played monopoly, I would offer breaks to players that laned on property and owed me more than they could afford, so I could keep playing an dend up with all of the land, not just win the game.

Well the goal of that was to win quickly, you were off by about 140-150 turns. What other set up and set of criteria do you want to use to judge skill at the game?

If growth was the issue, I had you there. Look at me on turn 125. If tech is the issue remember I had no problem reaching my targets. I could be through the tree faster than you could imagine. Would you like to give that game a run. Fastest to complete all tech?

I did not know it was a race or about skills. If it is I am willing to concede, does that help? I am interested in learning, I am not interested in seeing whose is bigger. I am fine with mine. I know there are many people better than me at any thing that one could imagine. I out grew that about age 35 or more than 20 years ago.

I guess I'm from the other school of thought. If you are going to do something do it well.

For grins I did a tech run. 209 turns to clear the all tech levels (left me with comp 1 and so forth). In there I accidentally almost wiped out the galaxy.

3 BB's
3 Titans

That was the extent of my total war effort for 200 turns.

Yeah, I had seen a post years ago where some one said this:
"T200, all production and research techs can be researched."
So that seems to be more or less confirmed by your run.

T200 or 209 turns, I am impressed. Was that on Hugh and on pre-warp or advanced?

vmxa1, thanks for the welcome.

This has been the most interesting and helpful thread of any I have read on Moo2. I printed it, at over 100 pages it should be a book. Hope Moo3 doesn't mean the end of this great thread.

I suspect that it will cause a slow down, but not the death. Once most of us get in shots at Moo3 and either give or master it. IOW I am not sure if it has any play or replay value. I am sure I will be playing more Moo1 and Moo2.

I think we are seeing the slow down, the test of how good Moo3 really is how many people come back to Moo1 or Moo2 and these threads. I expect to always at least lurk around these threads including CivII and SMAC.

I have not played SMAC in a few years, I played it to death and finally could not face starting a new game.
I think the one reasin was unhappiness, if only I could mind stable endlessly, I could still play. Sid seems to love unhappiness in all of his games.

I agree Sid seemed to go overboard on happiness, that's why we take it out of battle scenarios, pollution as well. Really, it wasn't very important during WW2 and in times before that survival was more important. If you play SMAX you have a little more choice, but the last time I played I DL a bunch of customized factions and really enjoyed playing again. You can also adjust the rules txt to decrease unhappiness if you so choose. I found with the right SP's and builds happiness can be managed, its just a distraction. I like all the terraforming that you could do in SMAC and miss it in other games.

Yes you can handle it as you can in CivIII at Deity, but it is not much fun to have to spend so much efford to deal with what should be a minor issue IMO.

I just digged this game out again, and play with;

Huge galaxy, Organic

Creative, LHW, RHW, AHW, Dicatorship, +1 Science, Omniscience

-ship offense, -ground combat, either -BC and -ship defense, or Repulsive

Extremely defense-oriented really, I use my initial colony to support expansion.

I've only played on Average so far, and it's been a complete pushover.

Views on this race?

It can make like easy on most levels. I would skip Omni. This is not needed until very late to detect stealth races and can be picked up at mutation if needed.

I am not fond of -BC, but any other the negs are fine.
If you go to impossible level this race can be hard to play if you are close to any of the monster races. If you get a chance to get going then it is good. I would take +1 production over Omni for sure.

Just to kill time waiting for GalCiv (yes, I skipped MOO3, it's MOO-meets-Excel-and-turns-Screensaver.. and buggy with this ! ), and will try for a Telepath+Diplo+Democracy -Spy-Growth race.

I play SP only, I plan to diplo-steal the AI empires with +75% diplo chance, and/or convert their planets (so I don't need growth that much.. )

I'm a little worried about Demo-Spy, ahy idiot will be able to steal everything from me, I'd have to put a big amount on anti-spy techs and structures.

But it looks cool that's the point !
