More ideas about stacking...
I think this game needs more improvements in the use of stacks. After 1.21f patch, I have to Shift-Click countless times to activate units in an stack and then press the 'J' key to move them. It would be great if all units in an stack were ordered by their type (for example, first all Mechanized Infantry units, then all Modern Armor units ...). Then, the procedure for activate units could be like in a File Manager: click in the first unit you want to activate, press Shift (or Control or Alt), and then click in the last unit you want to activate. Then, press 'J', and go on.

And it also would be great to have shortcuts to fortify or awake ALL units in a stack.

For last, it would help to intoduce a new "adjective" to units in stack: "Moved" or "Resting", in addition to "Wake" and "Active". This should be applied to units that you have move in your turn and can't be moved further.

With easy things like these, late game tedium will finish and Civ will be even more fantastic and addictive.

And, of course, stack bombard would also help ...
