OCC in Colonization
Anybody ever try this?
I think it would be possible. I think I would need a place with an ore deposit, some special trade resource, one square of forest, and maybe two squares of ocean (hope for 1 fish). You would be able to make at least 2 refined goods, coats and whatever else, so the price would be depressed severly by the end. But I think if you were near the Aztecs or the Incas, you could kill them and get 100k gold. And if you find a city of Cibola, you're set.

Well, in that game propably the spanish would be the best to play with... easier conquering -> more money to spend.
The ultimate place for that game? The surrounding squares should have: Tree (lumber), Ore mine (on a mountain) and a fish. Anything else is extra.
Hmmm... maybe I should try this one

You definatly need a lumbar resource, but I think Ore is not that necessary. Hills are all you need, since the need for tools is low (not much pionnering, only few buildings to construct) etc. The key thing will be a srong trading relationship with Indians and other colonials, since you probably will only get 2 refined goods comming in.
I tried this once, but got my a$$ kicked in the war of independence, since my one colony could not breed enough horses or make enough muskets once I ran out of my (HUGE) stores of material.

It's pretty easy to do on explorer or discoverer level.
I had one city with 3pop and lots of cannons (at least 20, bought from old world), and won early on Discoverer level.
Trick is too make money from Aztecs & Incas by pilaging their cities.
P.S.
But it's darn diffcult on higher levels, since all kings troops will go on same city, and this startegy above just doesn't give enough units.

I tried this last night on explorer, was quite easy. I managed to get get a city with 1 fish, 1 hill, 1 sq for lumber, furs, tobacco, and the town square had sugar. 2 sqs fished 1 sq farmed.
was probably easier to play this way than a real game. a lot faster too, enter, enter, enter etc.
pretty fun. It seemed that the other euros were more aggressive. Are they tuned to the city number or the military? cause I had maybe 4 dragoons, yet I was attacked off and on.
Also, tip: don't get LaSalle, if you are going to take other cities: can't abandon with the stockade.
going to try harder level when get a chance.

I'd play as solitary as possible. I'd hope that incas or aztecs were close by and if so conquer them. I'd hope not to meet any fellow europeans and just play for money. You could also buy raw goods from Europe and change them and trade them back again with Europe. This should work pretty well as Netherlands as your goods wont lose value and the raw goods should be cheaper and finished goods more valuable.
The bells should pretty much make themselves. I'd hope to get to 100 % and have a lot of vet cavalry in your city. I always find that attacking them with cavalry is better then them attacking your city.
BTW in a normal game does everyone else have a HUGE cavalry army for every 4 cities connected by road. The Europeans are at a huge disadvantage with only 3 ships so you can usually take out their landing army before they even have a turn to move
