Quant is a term that people in business and finance use. Quant = quantitative = number crunchy.

To really understand coplex derivatives (I do not by the way) one needs to know differential equations. The nature of the subject quickly becomes mathematical. Pick up a book on the topic and you will see...

The econ guy I know best actually seemed to have learned some diff eq. Not enough, of course, but some. He seemed to be able to do everything up to and including integrating factors. Watered down version of the ODE class I took (no Laplace transforms, no understanding of systems of interrelated ODEs, etc.). I don't see how you could manage with any less...

What's wrong with Laplace transforms? Trust me, things go downhill from there...

I hated that class. Things only got interesting when they started relating it to doing computer graphics...

Computer graphics are fun!
I'm actually working on a 3D asteroids game with some buddies (I'm doing the 3D work), and I'm having a great time with it.

Even using cryptic stuff like vertex and pixel shaders! yay.

You do much group theory? Derive the 256 space groups for crystals?

So dm, how much have you studied regarding Abelian groups and their applications to physical problems?

jk...what do you want?

I like Abel. If memory serves me correctly he was the original hard-luck mathematician.

Didn't apply much group theory to physics, don't know much solid-state crap.

My Algebra 3 class is where I know my group stuff from. Favourite part was Sylow theorems...

Nope. They're leading the series 2-1 against the 'Canes, and the game that's on right now is tied at 0.

And I am not like that guy. I'm a constant source of entertainment for all of you bores...

Oh, and replying to this made me miss the Habs' go ahead goal, you bastard!

You knoow with my music and history threads, I;m dominating this forum. If my spiderman thread and my EU flag thread had only survived...

Mark really needs to work on the board's technical side. Some kind of glitch is erasing threads...
