I don't get it. Since the game spells the city names in English, they'll never be correct.

Don't show off your Chinese language skill here.
The spelling of the city names in Civ3 are correct.
They are base on the Cantonese dialogue, which is more popular among overseas Chinese. People often associate Pingyin with Communist party, which is the most hated thing by overseas Chinese.

The city names in Civ3 are fine. We just need to add more cities. I especially don't want to change the spellings to Pingyin style, because that is too 'Communist'.

But if you have a chance to visit China, you will find most Chinese don't know city name you said!
Then the place name is the same as human name, it should be called by original native pronounce, even China is not communist.
Anyway, you know PinYin, that is not bad.

How rude! If you look carefully he's located in Tokyo. Plus, So what if a Chinese can't "spell" their name? English is not the only language in this world. As long as we can write it in the most used language in the world.

BEHAVE

Great suggestions, but only one thing: All the cities in the game exist, they r just in British spelling instead of Mandarin translation. If u really want to be exact, Hong Kong can be called XiangGang, which is how the mainland Chinese pronounces it... and Macao is Portugese translation too... although I hv no idea how to pronounce it in Mandarin.

Just a thought

Nit picker. I agree that local names are better, but at least get a game engine to write them in Kanji (is that the right name).
