Not sure if this was already mentioned, but the text in spoiler tags can't be viewed through painting in Opera (version 6.0 B1 Linux). This tag would be bad for browser interoperability...

Hey, Opera let me edit my post when I accidentally commented out the rest of this thread. IE didn't let me.

Well, I remember old UBB, where I played with tables some times, and one day I actually go my post on top of the page, over the table header...

I remember in another forum where someone made the entire thread scroll across the page

Then someone else tried to fix it, and ended up making it go across twice as fast

I like it.

Is it seriously screwing with stuff? I see the dark block at the bottom of the page, but the thread still reads fine...

How about this?

It doesn't quite work the way I hoped it would, and it probably only works for IE, but you get the idea. I imagine this could be done more elegantly if the <SCRIPT> tag would work properly, or using PHP (?).

<A href="#" onClick='((document.all.hidden.style.display=="non e") ? (document.all.hidden.style.display="") : (document.all.hidden.style.display="")); return false;'>spoiler...</A>
<DIV id="hidden" style="display: none">This really isn't all that interesting. </DIV>

I don't think that can be done with PHP...

I would if it was possible - IE is a great browser, perhaps the best I know. Too bad Windows isn't the best OS that I know and I prefer a good OS over a good browser.. I guess this all means that I'll have to start using Lynx again ...

The right margin looks the same to me. Straight line down, interrupted by my empty post.

You know, IW, a deliberate attempt to wreck a forum might just get you PCRed back down to Warlord - maybe I should tell Kermit?

It wasn't an attempt to "wreck" the forum, for one of those, see this thread.
If Ming, Markos, or Dan ask me to remove it, I will, but its interesting to see its effect. Which isn't all that huge from what I can see.

OK, IW - I believe that you were totally uninfluenced by:
Quote:
Hey, Opera let me edit my post when I accidentally commented out the rest of this thread. IE didn't let me.
and I'm sure Uncle Kermit will believe it too.
Thanks for the reference - now that is a wrecked thread!!
and- yes - at least on IE there does not appear to be too much damage ...

well yes, I was influenced by that, but I was certain thanks to previous tests that commenting out the entire thread would be almost impossible, so I wished to see its effect.

Me wonders if this little spoiler idea works;

SPOILER:

You shouldn't read this

This does have it's downsides; you have to match the color with the one your post will be in... call it a "Poor Man's Spoiler Tag".

no, it doesn't. But only because you got the colour wrong.

Besides, it wouldn't work for people in other styles.
