I don't get the feeling that multi-players are being catered for
The latest sign of this is all the talk about civs having unique characteristics. Multiplayers usually don't play historical civs, they make their own. I play as the Horse Empire, not the Romans or the Japanese. Its hard enough getting multiplayers to agree who gets which COLOUR. How on earth are we going to decide who gets which civ if they have clear advantages over each other and people have personal favorites????????

We need a level playing field. More generally, we need some sign from Firaxis that they are taking the interests of the multiplayer community into account in game settings etc.

Well, Firaxis did state that they will be implementing some new innovative multiplayer modes, so that is very positive. Moreover the differences between the unique units might be nothing more than graphical anyway. Therefore I wouldn't worry about thattoo much - I think multiplayers will get a good deal.

The only thing that concerns me about this is that I have read somwhere that Civ 3 might not be windowed. If that post is true that would indeed be terrible, but I am not sure about the post's validity, so i am not too worried.

I think there should be a FULL TECH TREE option like in AOE.

I sent some questions to Firaxis which may help to clarify some points.

Well, I don't get the feeling that scenario makers are being catered to.

All this 8 civ limit nonsense is very discouraging.

I felt the same as you about this issue, but since the limit now appears to be 8 rather than 7 civs, it seems (due to binary nature of computing) it will be editable in the text-files at least up to 15 civs.

Moreover, Firaxis is investigating the option of importing scenarios from Civ 2 to Civ 3.

Now, if both of these are correct, than that's what I call catering.

Whenever I play SMAC multiplayer, I always play random faction for all players. That way the best player must be able to adapt his/her strategies to the nature of the people he/she leads. I want to see the option for a random pick of civs by the game itself and not by me having to draw out of a hat.
