Two new terrain sets?
The Review says that there will be two new terrain sets that allow players to customize their maps. What do they mean by this. Will we get swamps and desert hills like CTP? Or somthing completly different? Personaly i thought not having sand dunes, swamps and the different types of mountains was a big drawback for Civ III.

Of course I don't know, but I'd guess that the sets are just some kind of modifications of the graphics, like Sn00py's graphics!

I would guess that the XP includes different options for graphics that you can mix and match, maybe in the editor?

they are different graphics for mountains, grass, trees and stuff...it seems we will get a chance again to play on Alpha Centauri

I made an alpha centauri land ages ago, completely changed the land into desolate deserts and so on, looked REALLY good to, was going to be a scenario, and the planet was called "Heia".

I plan to put swamps and 'afghanistan' type mountainous terrain as soon as I get the XP.

Here's the pic for the scenario I had planned.

I hope that one day I can finish it, and even better, I hope I can add a 5th era, so when you launch and land on a planet in Alpha Centauri, and you start from there. Hopefully something like that will be possible with the XP.

Seems good! Another argument for getting the XP! I hope you succeed, Sn00py!

Since Firaxis tried to implement some kind of canal and "Great Wall" in the beginning, maybe they are implementing it now. I hope so!

Well, early in the developement of Civ3, Firaxis told us that the Great Wall and the Panama Canal was supposed to be placed on the map when you completed it. For some reason, the idea wasn't used.

From the archives:

Quote:
The Great Canal is one of the new Wonders in the game. When you build that, you can chose a place on the map and connect two oceans, so it's like the Panama Canal. We also have the Great Wall, which is an old wonder, but now you can chose a section of your border and you get a wall that is really hard for someone to get through. We have another great Wonder, the Internet, but we're not sure exactly how that's going to function. We know it's got something to do with education, it will create a smart populace, but appart from that we're stumped."

One canal per civ is enough. and the great wall idea is still a very good idea, why they chucked it out, I'll never know. It would have made for some very fun game time.

btw, I cannot have a nice day if you don't give me one and I am still waiting.

I think they are complete sets of different terrains for the scenarios they're giving us.

one would hope that if they are adding better scenario capabilities, they would also allow flat maps. They would seem, to me, to go hand in hand.
