And you point is ...?

Again: I'd recommend the game to read both compressed and uncompressed files without the need of choosing any option, because the reading procedure can figure itself whether the file is compressed or not. That's the answer for the nine year old...

Thank you for asking Mike, and my vote is No. Mainly because I don't think they're too large, and uncompressed formats are easier for the fans to work on.

On a related notice, I don't like that you compressed savegames in 1.21. I have observed that saving and loading games in 1.21 takes longer than before, and that's no good thing.

hi ,

the bigger the map , the more units , etc , .....it can take up to 6 min ,......well then again , if we would see at what we get for that waiting , its worth it , every second , ....!!!

but even more time , hmmm , okay , max 5 sec's , .....
of course if its needed to compress the file's because the guys from firaxis need to do so , in order to make the game more excellent , then it has the vote of a lot of people , ....

have a nice day

Re: Should the BIC files be compressed?
I think we are too affraid you delete some options LOL!!!

No it isn't too big. Try to add all options you can and we will all being happy.

And I think as other. Saves with compressed Bic format are bad... for me cause I work on a mod and with that all save affected by a game bug can't be corrected.

.SAV file compression is also an option in the game Preferences. Of course, the game automatically takes care of decompression as needed.
Hmmmm where have you found this? Have you got a limited version ? Me there is no option for this in my game.

Exactly: Add options and we will - oh how was this word? - rejoice!

And PLEASE remove that thing about SAV's being merged with BIC's. Would be very happy to see that one go forever away. Or at least add an option to let the player (resp. the mod-designer) decide if (s)he want's to merge them or not.

Don't mess with technical stuff no one (or very few) wants is always a good "design descision" *lol*

PS: cool that you asked.

Well when you consider that the game itself takes up about 700 meg, 1500 kb, is a drop in the bucket. If there's going to be compression, it should only be on the map, the game data itself is squat. My mod is only 130 kb, big deal.

And if they don't, hard drives are dirt cheap these days. I think it's a pretty minor issue myself.

And the winner is...
The Winner:

Option D: Compress BIC files with an option to leave them uncompressed. Both the game and the editor will be able to open BIC files whether compressed or not.

It seems that this one got the most votes, even if it wasn't an available choice
