Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy (tril quadrilogy) by Douglas Adams... and the Harry Potter quadrilogy by J.K. Rowling.

To burn, to burn? Ah, Scarlet Letter by Hawthorne.

Or was it a pentology? Is 'pentology' even a word?

(bah... I was supposed to make a point of how the series was actually more than a pentology, until I found out that A Salmon of Doubt isn't actually a sequel)

Drip TM

But what role does Zaphod Plays It Safe have in this scheme? Is that the Hitch-Hikerish part of A Salmon of Doubt?

I don't really know. It's some kind of a collection. Probably has some Hitchhikery parts and some not so Hitchhikery parts.

That's one useful piece of literature.

Imran, I am glad that we have come to a peaceful and mutual solution in this very important matter.

Ewwww! The Phantom Tollbooth! NOOOOO! :O

And what do people have against the Scarlet Letter? I love it!

But if I had to bring one book with me... I'd probably bring - ugh - I don't know. This is simply too difficult of a decision. I'd bring dozens upon dozens of notebooks and perfect pens to write in. I have a pretty good memory for books...

What? No one has picked a survival manual of some kind? Sheesh. So how many of y'all will live long enough to read the book?

I'm re-reading The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins, though it has to be said he takes a hell of a while to make a point.

Favourite ever is probably Lolita.

Wraith: I was under the impression that this was a friendly island, where wild pigs will happily roll over and allow you to pierce their bellies with a minimum of fuss and muss.

Although it would probably be better to trap them, and then slowly, very slowly bleed them, to keep in the juices (as I remember from Jude the Obscure).

I don't understand what was boring about the Scarlet Letter; I found myself wrapped up in Hester and Pearl's problems, and I found myself genuinely concerned for the outcome of the book, which was among the best endings I've ever read. Sometimes books are like the emperor with his new clothes, but I firmly believe that the Scarlet Letter was no such book. Gosford Park was an emperor with "new clothes".

Scarlet Letter wanted me to scream outloud at how pointless this was... or fall asleep. Didn't interest me in the slightest... I didn't care what they were wrestling with inside or their problems.

Pointless? The point was that they were oppressed by a society constricting on love and our modern day values.

Imagine how you would feel if you weren't able to be publicly open with your love for your girlfriend, if you had a child by her and you couldn't even by that child's rightful father, if you had to hide your love from the world and live seperately from the woman you loved.

I think it's one of the biggest romances of the millenium.

All you really need for that, Krazyhorse, is a hole for people to pay to stick their probisces into... No coconuts necessary (unless they have some sort of fetish).
