There's pleasantly drunk, and there's drunk-to-escape. If you enjoy your own company, there's no reason not to enjoy a beer or two, as long as it's for enjoyment.

Would "drunk to escape" count as "silent but deadly"?

Q. why do these type of threads always pop up on friday and saturday nights?

A. is it because you realize that if you had any real friends, you'd be out with them, asking their opinion, not on a message board for a TBS game?

End, the answer to your question is obvious, you get a degree of anominity over the net that is impossible in real life, the fact that you arn't close to them makes it easier to 'let yourself go'
(although i've never felt the need to unburden myself on a stranger who lives 3000 miles away(no web cam!))

I have a beer or two occasionally when I'm bored at home all the time. Nothing wrong with that.

That has absolutely nothing to do with being a "geek". Booooo on youuuuuuuuuuuuuu.

I get girls hitting on me when I help them with their computer stuff, so "geek" isn't the turnoff you make it out to be. In fact most girls equate geek with money these days. As long as you're not a repugnant swine with a complete lack of social skills, being a geek shouldn't hurt you at all.

Obviously women living in Australia already have low standards.

Ech my friend. Go to a nice trance club, alone if need be. Take one:

Yeah - I actually went to a club by myself last night, nothing wrong with that at all, and I actually prefer it that way now considering you don't have to feel bad when you're dancing with girls and your friends are standing around like losers

You seem to have misread my post since you seem to be agreeing with my point. I was trying to tell the guy not to accept the term "geek" as a negative label . . . be smart, be into computers etc but don't accept that girls won't like you because of it. Most of the young guys without girls on here seem to never ask any girls out -- its often because they accept a negative self-image (at least they post as if they do)-- If they saw themselves a little more positively-- who knows what they could accomplish in the social circles

I agree that being smart, intellectual or into computers should not hurt you in the least . . . I was talking about the old "geek" sterotype where the braniac was always lacking in all social skills

As for women and money, some are like that and it takes a while to learn to avoid those- I'm a lawyer and have seen a few who are like that but not that many . . . most women just seem to want a decent guy regardless of money stuff

Ah, okay, that makes sense then.

Myself, I don't ask girls (or guys) out because they seem to be quite a drain on the money these days and I'm not a socially needy person anyway.

well asher . . . if you don't want to go out with anyone, you shouldn't. But I have seen a number of posters bemoan their single and/or virgin status and it seemed that the starter of this thread was one of them. If someone is happy single they should stay that way but if they want to change their circumstance . . . well they have to do something other than cry in their beer

Cheers and good night

You do realize alcohol is a drug, right?

Yup.

And I can have fun without alcohol - when I go out, I'm rarely drunk. Usually I only get truly drunk at parties with friends.

You can have fun without alcohol, it's just more fun and different types of fun with alcohol right?

You can have sex without a woman, but isn't sex more fun with the woman?
