Played Civ II Under A year? What Settings Are Preferred?
I can't stop people from voting who shouldn't, but the question is asked of "Newbies".
What do you say?
Pick a setting and production level.

You should have differentiated between
1x1x
2x1x
2x2x
1x2x (even though I've never seen people that promote these settings)

The combination of the two is important

rah
and no I didn't vote
and maybe a few more difficulty levels would help too.

From my experience, 2x2x king is what most of the newer people play. That doesn't mean there aren't alot of excellent players that play those settings also.

I think alot of it has to do with where you start playing multi-play. If your first experiences are on the zone, you will most likely become a 2x2x kinger, because that is about 75% of the games played out there.

I agree also with one of your other comments SLOW... Most people in the zone think 2x2x king is faster which is another reason why they play it.

BTW - I didn't vote.

I played little over a year now and must say I prefer 2x2x king with 1x1x deity a good second.

2x1x gives the disadvantage that while you can put city's nearly everywhere, cats only have 1 movement so its way to easy to defend yourself.

btw I didnt vote either

as a newbie i played 2x2x king, getting my start in the zone

/me tries to resist temptation of screwing with Sloww's poll....

You can download a patch, 2.42 I believe, M.N.
Makes regular Civ II into MP, unless I'm misinformed.

Would it be a far better poll if the question was "what settings did you play when you were a newbie"? Then everyone that has posted here could vote.

There's been a vote, just not using my crappy poll.
If one looks over posts, "Newbies" prefer 2X(2X) King; just as I knew they did.

Slow wasn't quite clear. You need the 2.42 patch to patch your original civ2 to the last SP version used, then also the 2.42 - MGE upgrade patch, which I think can be found at civfanatics.

Shoot, you can get MGE for something like $16 nowadays. I have it installed separately from Civ2 2.42 because the AIs are different. Also, a regular Civ2 save can be shared with anybody, but MGE SP saves can only be read by MGE.

... $16? Not in Sarzana's Swamps... To have Civ3 I had to make obscure maneuvers asking my US colleagues to buy and send me a copy... It could be very hard for me to show that I'm working in my company if I come again with a new "order"...

I'm only a few months into this and haven't played enough to have strong preferences, but I voted Deity. Have only played MP with the Ming-RAH axis (sucking, d'accord), so can't really judge the 2x/1x aspect.

I do know that RAH Rules screw me up. 2x1x really changes the game. I can't imagine how bizarre it gets when you add 2x movement into the mix...
