Firaxis should have just made the entire battle system more complex. The fact that units have no need for supply lines, or anything else (as long as you have that extra gold in the treasury...) like that makes things very unrealistic. I think there ought to be some sort of supply system, but that's wishful thinking in this series.

but there is a need to keep the road open , ...... , ...or ya cant built new units , and the ones you have , well , its like they are resupplied by little men , .......

It doesn't work since you won't be able to access it. You need to have a road connected to the resource before you can use it. And last I heard, it's not possible to build roads in the ocean.

But what's the point? Strategic resources are difficult to come by as it is, even if you max out the appearance ratio. Why waste one, or more, by putting it out in the ocean, where you'll never be able to access it? The only value you'd really get from it is if you turned it into a bonus resource, but then you'd no longer be able able to use it as a unit etc. requirement.
