I need help on John Petrotski's scenario Ansteig....
Hey, I have Civ2 MGE and i've read all of the readme files.....and i don't know what else to do. Everytime i start up the game, it goes directly to an error and shuts down civ2.
Can anyone help me?
Thx

Let's figure it out;
Diagnose, analyse and give me a few hints about your setup, specially what have you installed lately that might create a conflict!!

But, simpler...
RE-INSTALL everything (brand-new) in a new directory.
Don't forget to put aside your sub-dirs, tough.

MGE without interference(??) runs flawlessly until externals exe's scraps it or a couple of *.TXT's are inadvertantly changed.

Let us all know...

It runs fine on all my other scenarios...the only other scenario i had problems with but fixed was Redfront Scenario. i fixed that because i had to do something with the files. So i thought of that so i've read every single file that came with Ansteig. And it says all u have to do is install it, and it's compatible for Civ2MGE. The only file swapping that u have to do in the game is when the Winter months come around and when you need to switch the Events Files........

What operating system does your computer use?

I have had games that wanted to install themselve in the directories that are standard with FW instead of with MGE. Are you sure that the files are all in a sub-folder of your MGE Scenario directory?

I run on Windows95 with Civ2 MGE. Ansteig is for MGE...And yes i unzipped the files into a subfolder in the Scenario file. I just don't know what else i could do.

A possible conflict might be from a "missing" sound file within what Anstieg creates under the scenario's sub-directory.

What we need is the exact error coding;

If it is from a corrupted *.txt (rules or anything else), it can easily be fixed by pointing to an -illegal- call aimed at registry settings.
If it is from an event's dialing, it is much harder to find since they apply "externally" to the main executable without somekind of a reference.

Again, it is NOT a MGE setup error, since your other scenarios are running fine. Maybe, you just happened to have a corrupted zip of it... too.

Well i got it from Apolyton's Scenario League site. One second let me get the error to come up again.
it said, "Civ2 caused an invalid page fault in module CIV2.EXE at 014f:0057685b. then it has
Registers: EAZ=0000036f CS=014f EIP=0057685b EFLGS=00010202 and it goes on for awhile......then it says, Bytes at CS:EIP: then some numbers/letters....
then it says,"Stack dump: then alot of numbers/letters... then the error details ends...
hope this helps you help me...

O yeah er.....no sounds came with Ansteig just the game files, it's suppose to have sound files with it, but all of the ansteig scenario's that i've found to download didn't come with the sound files....

Looks like a map/reload mis-heap to me, OR even a corrupted ZIP/file content!

Where were we?
Winter months... is a strange concept;
it might be caused by TERRAIN2.GIF's.
But, there's also the fact that an EVENT's file has been called-up somewhere;
Previously said; "Corrupted *.TXT's" are also a common source of Mis-Heaps.
