How 'bout a progress report?
Is anything happening in the magical realm of CB? Goin's been mighty slow here for a couple of days.
Inquiring minds want to know!

A number of the team have gone into semi-hibernation due to looming exams, but otherwise - the coding dept. are busy working on in-house release v0.1, and with Helio back, we're starting work on the Fate Engine for upcoming releases.

Yeah ... this is the busy time of year for those members of the team that are still in full-time education, which is quite a few of us. The project has been going since January and we seem to go through cycles of slow progress when people have Real Life issues to resolve, but we always get back on track to get things going again with some frenzied activity. That's one of the biggest drawbacks of working with an entirely voluntary team, but a problem that it is impossible for us to avoid for obvious reasons.
Work on the game hasn't stalled though, we're just waiting at some traffic-lights at the moment and the engine's still running.
Vel is on holiday this weekend also ... his absence always creates a quiet patch.

In house release? You guys know nothing about PR. Open alpha testing guys, open!

Well ... we might know nothing about PR, but we know enough to check that a game works the way we said it would before we allow the general public to play it ... if only a certain other company we all know and love had done the same thing.
Beta testing will be open ...

Not.

From a coding POV, bits and pieces are being finished and v0.1 is coming together. No official word on when some necessary bits will be finished, but thats the nature of the beast.

Is the project behind or ahead of schedule? (based on your initial estimates and milestones.)

Hmm... but are you ahead of the schedule you had before the update as well?

It would be nice if we could tell you what the target date for the v0.1 release is ... I don't like us keeping secrets ...

Already starting to act like a typical development house. You're less open than QS and more than Firaxis...

I'm joking...but I'm serious too. The CoC guys are pretty open with sharing there planned release times, etc. No reason to be coy...

Nahhh....no big secret...it's just that this is our first coding milestone and we're testing the waters with it...trying to see if we're as good at guessin' this stuff as we think we are....so far so good, and believe me, when we've got a date in our heads for the first public beta, we'll be announcing that date.
Given that v0.1 is a totally in-house release though, it falls in the same category as the milestone date we set for our first newsletter a couple months ago....just wasn't something anybody outside of the project would get excited over, so we didn't mention it.
But, we are on-track....and that's a good thing. Gives me confidence that when we do have a public beta release date, we'll hit it...

Course if you fall drastically behind I'ld advocate using a dino tileset. They're easy to make.
