Reefer addict, I did not disband any units from any screen at any time. I don't recall ever in any Civilization III disbanding units.

If shields do not carryover, why are there forty shields in the build box?

ned if you never disband units and had 40 sheilds in that box, you either had automated workers cutting down forest or a bug. ive played 100 civ3 games and have never seen carry-over sheilds.

Ned,

this is getting stranger... as reefer addict noted, carrying over shields should not happen. Or did they change the rules with last patch? You rushed the solar plant, so had an excess of 70 shields, is there a rule that says you can keep half of that on next improvement? Next time I'll play I'll certainly look into that.

At least everybody agrees it has something to do with those shields. It might be a bug, but don't go crying:"BUG BUG" before it has been determined this is not a game mechanic

However, just setting the city to wealth, changing it right back to your space ship component should be the same effect as what you anticipate: no shields to start from, and being able to start the component.

BTW reefer addict: cutting down a forest can't be it, look at the save, all the surrounding terrain is fully improved, without any worker on it. That can't happen in one turn (you can chop and improve, but then the workers used their movement points)

I am using the current patch.

I also noticed the same phenomena even if I did not rush build a facility. I had to build a unit, like a tank, before I could build a spaceship component.

Tonight I'll check my current games to see if I am getting carryover shields when I build facilities.

You guys might want to independently check.

BTW, I am using XP.

I don't know if this is the same, but I was building a certain component in one city, and I wanted to get ahead so I tried to build the same one in another city figuring I would switch. It wouldn't let me build the same component, but when I went back to the orginal city and changed it, it now allowed me to build it in the second city.

rah, that's normal. You can only build one instance of a small wonder at any time, so if you want to change, you have to do it in such a way that at every time there's at most one city who builds the wonder

and it couldn't be IFE if there are no forest chopped down (provided IFE still stands for Infinite Forest Exploit)

Wrong Saying Panag
You have the wrong saying next to Sharon's picture. IF you are going to use the Israeli's you have to say something like, "My words are backed up with nuclear weapons."

Israel has the bomb, not chemical or biological weapons.

You could say "My words are backed up with armored bulldozers and tanks, and an itchy trigger finger!"

No it couldn't, look at the safe. As explained in one of my post above: there are no workers surrounding the city, so it can't be that they just finished chopping wood and improving the terrain, AND moving away, all in one turn.

But if they just chopped forest, they can't move anymore, can't disband, just stay there...until next turn

Plus, do auto workers disband themselves? cool

Well panag, if you have a clue as to what is going on let us know. I don't believe that this has anything to do with auto workers disbanding themselves. My auto workers are out there cleaning pollution, which you will notice I have an abundance.

Panag, This game is old game. I don't have any auto saves available.

I do not believe the city manager was on. I had to manually change production.

Also, this particular city was not building a Wonder. Nor was there and available Wonder that was not already under production in another city.

As of this point in time, the question that we have to answer is where did those extra shields come from?

I don't even have the game loaded anymore but...

There is still some SMAC code in the engine. In SMAC you could rush overbuy which would result in shields being present the turn after the build. Is it possible that when coding Civ3 the developers put in a routine to drop leftover shield when building normally, but forgot to put the same in for rush overbuilds?

If so, that would be a significant bug to be discovered this late in the game.

And your not a pest. I think of you as my little brother who I am helping with a math problem.
