Thanks, Pekka. I trust that your last info is trustworthy.

By the way, the online dictionary is this one:

http://efe.scape.net/index.php

It's strange that it doesn't know so nice word as mukavaa.

IW, Happy learning to you too, you can't make it!

Ok let's try it this way. mukava means all those things you mentioned before. It also means nice.
'Sepäs mukavaa' means that's nice.
'mukavaa' means just nice.
Okay now i confused myself. Well you have to blame yourself for getting me into this!

Just learn japanese. It's easier and more interesting and more of use .

Well, I can imagine that "mukavaa", while being a kind of declension of "mukava", at the same time gets a slightly different meaning.

Decent toilets? Sepäs mukavaa. Well, I suppose you have to propose something really revolutionary if you hope to sell them in the States. I guess it will be thermo-regulated seats.

Oh and also, what's up with your doors? They are placed often in a way that when you enter the main door, you enter the living room! It's nice to brake up an intimate moment between the family by entering the living room from the front door. And most of the doors can be just kicked in, no wonder the bad guys rob houses so often.

Ok sorry about my rant . Had to get it out of the system.

Yes toilets... but how do you make them 'decent' if the ones we have aren't decent?

So you're frustrated over how they don't flush your sh!t well?

And 'mukava' is the "basic form" of the word 'nice, comfortable', 'mukavaa' is the accusative, so yes, they're the same word.

Some of the blame on bad toilet bowls and showers can probably be attributed to the lack of fresh water, and in effort to save it, they make bad showers and toilet bowls.
Thats what you get when you don't guard your lakes properly, leaving them open to theft.

I just have to correct some mistakes made by a fellow Finn...

Actually, 'mukavaa' is not the accusative. The accusative of the word 'mukava' would be 'mukavan' or 'mukava', depending on the sentence (in Finnish, accusative resembles the genitive or the nominative, if I remember correctly).

'Mukavaa' is the partitive form, which is used in the sentence 'Se on mukavaa', meaning 'That is nice'. 'Sepäs mukavaa' is just a short, colloquial form of the same sentence. In general, partitive is the case the object in a sentence often gets, if it is not in accusative, and means quite the same thing as e.g. in French using the preposition 'de', e.g. 'du fromage'. (Pardon my French, I haven't studied it for a couple of years...)

Please, don't despair - Finnish nouns have over fifteen cases, and we have only touched a few of them thus far... anyone willing to bet on what would be e.g. the (plurar) comitative of the word 'mukava', and how it could be used?

Jarouik: Jarkko tuli huoneeseen mukavine kavereineen?

... mutta mitenkäs abessiivi? Yksikössä se olisi "mukavatta" ja monikossa "mukavitta", ainakin uskoakseni. En osaa keksiä yhtään lausetta johon nuo sopisivat... syynä lähinnä se, että "mukava" on adjektiivi ja adjektiiveille ei virallisesti ole (muistaakseni) abessiivimuotoa .

http://www.internetix.fi/opinnot/opi...eli/kielioppi/ on järjettömän hyödyllinen osoite kielioppikeskusteluihin...

Hyvä pointti... abessiivia adjektiivista en ole tullut ajatelleeksikaan. Komitatiivikin on kyllä aika älytön, koska 'mukavine' on käytettävissä vain adjektiiviattribuuttina. Nettiosoitteestakin voi olla hyötyä, koska kielioppi tarttui päähäni koulussa tai lukiossa, enkä ole sen jälkeen tarkistanut, muistanko enää mitään oikein...
