Good luck with the connection LaFayette, take your time - I'm still recovering from a marathon session on the Sailing Game - that got my lady in a serious MWHC mood - you too Julius...

News from Lafayette Khan
Lafayette Khan looks at the Empire and says: 'Those Greeks are evil and must be punished. What we need is ironclads and a strong transportation network.'
Here is what happened next:
1630: Beads to NoDecorum = 339g , Wine to NoDec = 111g, Dye to NoDec = 88g.
METALLURGY discovered, RR researched.
1640: Oil to NoDec = 34g , Coal to NoDec = 62g, Salt to NoDec = 46g.
1680: Salt to NoDec = 46g, Hut gives 100g, mighty Mongol crusaders take RIGA (plunder 12g )
1700: Some ironclads now close to Greece, therefore:
Mongols take Thermopylae (plunder 152g), Mongol take Pharsalos (plunder 82g).
1710: RR discovered, EXPLOSIVES researched
Coal to PiRamesses = 50g, Cloth to NoDec = 57g, Cloth to Northern Egypt = 32g
1720: ADAM SMITH completed in NoDecorum (just for the fun of it, since we are now close to victory).
Mongol take Argos (plunder 52g), Mongol bribe Herakleia (cost 1222g, plunder 122g).
Wine to NoDec = 74g.

Lafayette Khan decides that a bottle of champagne in Summer Palace would be nice on the 4th of July. He resigns and wishes his successor lots of fun with all the ironclads now swarming around Greece.

I think you are right: my new connection seems to work but also seems to have forgotten my e-mail address (and I spent a whole day on hotlines before someone noticed that my computer was connected to the wrong telephone line ).
Of course, if you have good advice about making my new connection remember my e-mails, I shall be thankful.

(disco) Inferno?

Ho ho!
Niccolkahn rises to power! And he sits on the Mrs Mongol's Gold Throne (who is forced to a 40years holiday).
And here we go!
1720 what we have 23 crusaders? and 14 Ironclads? mmmh... this is better than the golden throne!
Our good relationships with our "friend" Hammurabi result in a 150$ gift... we emptied his treasury
1730 Mycene is ours (King Richard Crusade and something else I can't remember)
1740 Crusaders burn, kill, loot and so on...
1750 Mr. Niccolò Engineering Faculty discovers Explosives settlers rejoice and Leonardo's does its work.
1752-6 Pesky Russians lose their last city... We discover Theory of Gravity and Industrialization thanks to mr. Darwin (I suppose?!)
1758 Athens Falls and Babylon cancels his alliance
1760 we discover The Corporation and we go for... guess what? ... Electricity ... just to make some Git happy! (do I need a period in the Sticky Mouse Institute?)

$$$ is high, crusaders ride and navy rules!
3 or 4 cities left to be conquered... long live our Country and all his Priests (in particular the Higest )

No need to hurry up, Julius.
I have a feeling that you might manage to conquer the last 'alien' (*) city before you resign. Therefore no speedy successor waiting...
(*) Mongol dictionary: 'alien' = 'not Mongol...yet'.

1762 ad. Well, this one is almost finished. 5 towns left to conquer. The only challenge is to find the 2 greeks one ... And to manage 75 cities ! Although we have more than 14000 gold, I change freight production to capitalization about 40 times to avoid getting mad with now useless micromanagement. We’re too far away from space flight and its Apollo map anyway.
1764 ad. We discover Electricity. As with Leo we get scouting destroyers of 8-move, it might prove a blessing. One of our new destroyer kills a greek archer, in the yet unexlored north part of their continent. If their 2 cities were there, it would be too easy. Gordion captured and Persian civilization destroyed.
1766 ad. We discover Communism. (Note to the participants of another Succession game, with freights, science can go very fast while in Fundy). We lose Yakutsk to barbarians.
1768 ad. We build the United Nations. A little bit of Diplomacy in this world of treachery and for 4000 gold a made worshipful Alexander shows us where its last 2 cities hide. They were close to the others !
1770 ad. We capture Halicarnassus.
1772 ad. We discover Chivalry. Marathon captured and Greeks are no more.
1774 ad. Yakust recaptured.
1778 ad. We discover Leadership, while the Babylonians develop warrior code. Their cities are “defended” by phalanxes, are were the one of the Greeks. It’s much too easy.
1780 ad. We capture Babylon, Ashur and newly founded Ellipi. The war is over. Final score : 266%

End of the game. Another one that went smoothly. In my opinion, the 2.42 is much too weak for any challenge. Under certain circumstaces, MGE or ToT can be fun (some scenarios or premade maps, really challenging rules, or really different great leaders ... greatly different).
Here is the saved game before I took the last city if anyone wants to take a look.

Good work Julius

I take your point about 2.42, but these games are quite instructive for many players.

I do have an idea for a very simple game which should be challenging...even in 2.42...more on this soon.

Thanks to everyone who took part and for keeping things moving so well.

Good job, Julius!
BTW you achieved even more than needed, namely took back Yakutsk. One wins the game even if one leaves 10 cities to the barbs (and they rightly deserve it, poor blokes, after all the leaders they offered us )
We should play the next game with one arm tied behind our back.
