looks pretty sweet. when can we get a prototype to disect?

I have seen a Merkava 2 they gave us and sold to a musuem. Nasty beast. I would say the 4 is on par with the Abrams. But no worries, like the abrams it was made to destroy that Soviet-era crap the arabs throw at both of us.

Has Israel ever considered gas turbine power for its tanks? Maybe youn guys should dash off a design for a gas turbine model. Then you can buy parts from the same people who make the engine for the M1A1.

The Merkavas remins me a bit of (heavily upgraded/modified) Leopard 2s, but then again, I'm not too much into modern era tanks.

It is time to rethink Uganda -- this time for the Palestinians.

The Ariete is a piece of trash compared to the Le Clercs and Leopard 2A6s.

Does the Italian tank have an automatic "Fire and Surrender System" like every French tank?

hi ,

the special engine it uses , has some advantages over a standard gas turbine , ....

one thing the Merkavada has , is that it does not have "limitations" like the leopard 1 and 2 , they have to build according to certain limitations , like the size , for transport by railroad , one thing the Israeli's dont use that often , armour , road spec's , etc , ....

the best thank that comes near it , is the French "Leclerc" , ...

the Merkava 4 its more advanced than the m1a1 Abrams , very far , ....

if anyone wants more pics or info , just ask , ....

have a nice day

Pics! Pics! Pics!

Btw, there is something I wondered about for the last couple years and this is the best place to ask. In all the TV reports about Israeli actions in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip lots of Israeli APCs have sandbags attached to their sides. Why?

hi ,

Eli , sandbags are extra protection , not for the APC , but for the temp camp that is set up , or for the fire support mission , or for the sleeping place , ETC , ....
equipment is alos often placed on the outside , due to the lack of space , ...., sleeping bags and so , ...

in the Sabra there is also less place , so sandbags and alike are placed outside , ....

did you ever seen pics from libanon , there it was hard sometimes , because of all the stuff you have to take with you , .....

sometimes you see something that looks like boxes , that is special pro-reactive armour , so antitank missiles are useless , ....

pics , some from M4 on the way , there are not so many do from the 4 , yet , ...

have a nice night

RPG's, or the Soviet gift to the worlds revolutions. Basically a gernade on a rocket, can melt through alot of steel and inserts the explosives inside.

And actually the Soviet RPG is a cheap rip off of the Nazi Panzer-Faust.

hi ,

not all , the are now going to replace them , first 665 units of the second M1A2 series , then with M1A2 SEP , 1998-2008 , only a few in use , and there is th M1A1 D 1999-2009 , only a few in use .

a new series shall enter from 2006 on , that is if the go ahead with it , ......

as for now , the Leclerc or the Merkava out perform the M1A1 any day , .....

have a nice day

I doubt the leclerc out does the Abrams. Leclerc doesnt use depleted uranium shells. You'de be lucky if the leclerc 120mm could take out the frontal armor of an abrams at stand-off range. Not a problem with the abrams which can take out most tanks at standoff range (2-3 miles)

Of course I could be talking out of my ass. I have never seen a leclerc, but I have seen the abrams in action and they are amazing

all tanks look amazing at performances. Truth is , we'll never really know , until battle looms. Let's hope that this all is hypothetical talk.

Panag : I can also download and resize pictures from the IDF site.

Oh, are you sure the last one was Mk4? It looks more like Mk3 for my absolutely untrained eye.
