Yeah... many times, they are hoping for the standard...
"DON'T LEAVE... WE LOVE YOU" or "DON'T LEAVE... YOU OPINIONS ARE STILL NEEDED" type of stuff being posted.

But in looking through this thread...

1. Jt needs some time to cool off. He has some interesting points. And I like a bit of sarcasm, but he was becoming tiresome (repetitive).

2. All that aside, I'm not crazy about moving someone's posts to another thread. I agree with the poster who suggested banning instead.

Ixnay37?

btw, GP - That was me who suggested banning rather than deleting/moving. The viewpoint should still be expressed, not moved to a closed thread that'll disappear off the radar very quickly.

ARPAnet - the forerunner to the Internet? Wasn't that just between certain US universities?

That's just the default date in the system, and everyone from before Feb 1999 (I think) has that date as their join date.

oh well goodbye jimmy

I hope you will come back and find that you can get along with the censorship.

BTW, I wonder what is in vogue with these "im leaving" threads in Apolyton/Community rather than the OT recently?

They registered before UBBoard, which was before Vbboard (which we use now)

All of them registered before 2-15-99... however 1970 is when usenet time begins.

Ming you need to put that information in the FAQ... (assuming of course anyone reads it; I've looked at it about 5 times; and still have yet to read it )

People always ask about 1970 or 1969... depending on their time zone

About the 1970 thing... too bad I did not register one month earlier...

About jt: I'll miss you very much, because you have enlightened my life in oh so many ways. I cannot believe you're leaving. Please stay. Apolyton will not be the same without your insightful posts. How will Civ3 get improved if the Firaxians cannot read your posts anymore? I surely hope you reconsider your decision.

Oh yeah.

That's uncalled for, Alex. JT might have been a wee bit to obsessed with badmouthing Civ3 and everyone involved with it here lately, but I recall him as a excellent and interesting poster back when I used to lurk in the SMAC groups.

Something obviously happened along the way.

Ok, moomin, somehow I feel you're right. And I also remember jimmy from his happier SMAC days - he was indeed an interesting poster back then.

Problem is, lately he has just been babbling this same sort of whining about Civ3 and it is soooo boring. But I'm able to discern in his late posts some of the wit and insightfulness that used to make him a brilliant poster. But, as you said, something happened along the way, it's almost as if his evil twin replaced him here.

No offense intended, jt. Just a little sarcasm.

mmm...18 days and he's still not back. Maybe he meant it.

Or he's using a DL! . Or one of many .

Any new Settlers or Chieftains around with particularly scathing views on Jeff Briggs?
