Changes in upcoming patch and PTW
We had a chat today with Firaxians (Soren and Dan), and we learned 2 interesting things :

- about culture flipping cities, there will be a limit, which makes it possible to avoid culture flips with less than 20 units.
More precisely, a city has more chances to culture flip for each foreign national living in, and for each foreigner sqare within the radius. The number of squares + people affecting culture flip will be capped.

Soren said :
"there is a slight improvement in culture flipping coming with the next patch, but otherwise, we are happy with how it works..."
" i capped the number of citizens/squares which can affect the culture flip"
"thus, the max number of units to prevent a flip has been lowered."
"it's still pretty high, but it's no longer in the 20+ range (unless you don't have very much culture...)"

- about the commercial trait, it will become better :
"the commercial trait has been improved..."
"cities/metros get another extra commerce or two and it reduces corruption more than previously..."
"actually, it added 2 [cities to the optimal city number]. now, it adds 4 (normal size map)"

I have it! The Welsh will be one of the civilizations, and the rabbit will be their special unit. Of course, that won't occur until the 2nd expanion, Cook the World. ;-)

commercial trait is still not bad, expansionist however is...
my scout marches off, finds maybe a tech, a warrior and if i'm veeeeery lucky (once in approx. 20 games with expansionists) a settler. it might be fine on huge maps, but on my favorite (standard size) the advantages are minimal.

at the same time scientists, industrialists and commercialists can build some things cheaper. religious gets approx. 10 extra turns (no waiting between despotism-->monarchy-->republic-->democracy... on higher levels around 3-4 turns per change). and militaristic is a vital trait for all my games i go for domination victory (an army with 4 modern armours can kill 2-3 fortified (in metropolis) elite mech.infs in one turn.... and armies are expensive!

alva848 :
These informations have been given (I don't think it was an official announcement) yesterday night during an unexpected chat with Dan and Soren.

Deathwalker :
They didn't give us more info than that. However, I've read in other chats the patch is in testing phase, and will be out as soon as it works flawlessly.

They stated that last night as well. Before Spiffor was on, I believe.

Pedant type = welsh

Welsh rarebit is absolutely nothing to do with rabbit. And the Welsh special unit should be an arsonist that burns down English holiday homes.

Kring :
Sorry, I won't. It's not IRC, and it's more difficult to save chat contents. But I think I wrote every intersting citations I could read during my time in the chat.

Most of the time was spent making anybody who entered think that Soren and Dan gave us really interesting info that they haven't given out before.
