2) do you build Sun Tzus?
If the answer is yes, you are a bad player.
Economically Sun Tzus is a dissaster. The cost is 3 techs (warrior code, monarchy and feud.) and 6 caravans which can produce 900 gold and 900 beakers.
What do you get? Vet units...maybe some vet ships...
BIG DEAL.....
This statement proves you are a bad player. Sun Tzu's is one of the best wonders and it comes in very, very handy, especially in MP games. So build those trade routes for me, I'll be coming at you hard with 40 vetren cavalry and 10 diplomats and be sinking every caravan that hits the ocean. The fact that you think developing Monarchy is a "cost" also proves you are a bad player, you should be getting that as early as possible anyway.

I challange you to a MP game, AOL=AnthoNarz, ICQ=162893046

@ strat: maybe you want to know where the "great players" have gone to. a lot of them have changed to 1x1x settings. I guess they where fed up with those 500BC powergraph games which were necessary in 2x2x since the game became unplayable beyond this line (too many cities, too many units: just a waste of time).

and as far as I remember sun tsu has been THE game decider in 2x2x. the one who built it got a boost in powergraph.
I wonder what had happened since Iīve left the zone. how do you use to win (or lose) your games now? by conquering your rival? have you ever been able to win a game on 2x2x that way? tell me about it, because I think this is impossible, at least when the game lasts longer than 20 turns.

there have been a lot of good reasons why I prefer 1x1x(deity) now and most things you said about these settings tell me that you know nothing about them. you obviously donīt want to realize that 1x1x has a completely different concept. I still have a hard time realizing that some of my strategies donīt work anymore on these settings. other strategies will have to take their place.
at least you should give it a try.

Well said oedo.

It's a shame we've never played. If you ever choose to the honor would be mine.

I disagree

I've only a couple times played 500BC PG games, and they were boring. The idea to solve any tedium is to not bother playing on medium maps, they're too big. Slightly smaller maps all the way down to small are what I play (50x60 or 50x70 for 4-ways, small map for duels etc).

Actually it doesn't affect powergraph at all... you must mean pyramids. Sun Tzu's puts barracks in every city (and only population has any significant affect on PG).

In most of my 2x duels my opponent is on course to be completely destroyed. This is the case weather the game ends in 1000BC or 3000BC, and most people retire well before you completely destroy them anyway. How I do it will have to remain a secret though, and it's too long to describe here anyway.

See, thing I don't like about 1x is the luck involved. Poor land = automatic win for other player, good huts for one player = automatic win for that player, at least when you're talking about equal players. This is far worse than with 2x as in 2x even poorer land can be productive to some degree. There is also tedium involved as it takes so long for you to get set up, and wars are pretty rare. I still play 1x deity, and it's not that bad, but I still prefer 2x king games any day.

the problem with x2 production, is that trade is over emphasized.....if one player doesn't get any, he is screwed even more so by the fact that its doubled.

the only even upper in x2 is that you can build on anything or anywhere...it still doesn't guarrantee a win though

the luck in all maps is the same
the luck in all huts is the same

nono, I mean what I said. military power affects the pg. I won a couple of games that way, even when I was behind in population. pretty lame, I have to confess. but so is 2x2x.

DD, as soon as I have some more time for playing, Iīll tell you. at the moment the time zone is preventig me from playing with apolyton players.
btw one thing that comes into my mind while reading these topics: do apolytoners actually ever play?

Only nice players or even good players play games now, The great players just tell us how much they could kick our arses without actually playing.
The normal players would be too boring for the great players.

Oedo, I have to agree with Fell on one thing, Pyramids affects the graph more than Sun's.

Now I'll sit and wait for Happyass or someone to tell me how ignorant I am.
But difference of opinion is the whole point in a horse race.

I'll play emperor 2x1x, not 1x1x. And Deity is definitely for rookies. Look at the people playing it, do I really need to say more? All you have to do is take one look at deity dude to realize that only complete morons play deity.
