Order of units in an army
Is there any way to know in what order units in an army will attack? And/or is there a way to reorder units to guarantee that a certain unit within the army will attack first?

I have three elites and a veteran in an army, and I'm trying to get the vet to become elite. I'd like the vet to attack first.

Suggestions?

Presumably, it's a loading thing. The order in which units are loaded into an army should be the same as with a galleon or transport. IIRC, that's last-in, first-out. So you'd put the unit you want fighting first into the army last.

At least I think.

If you've already put units in, I guess you're hosed, yeah?

I presume the unit with the highest chance of winning attacks (or defends) first. I suppose you could try damaging the 2 elites so that the third one will fight instead. But that sounds a little risky... just leave it.

This could have 1 tactical implementation as i see it:

If you put a defensive unit in your army (2 knights, 1 pike for example) ( not saying this is a smart thing to do btw.)

Then it would be best to put the pike in last, ( or first depending how you look at it) so you don't attack with your pike and defend with your kights.

Can someone check this?

If your stack gets attack, the unit with the higest defense point will defend no matter how deep it is in the stack.(I think this is the case, I rarely attack with defenders on the stack. It slows down the Cavalry)

As far as who attack first on your stack...I think it's the unit that is on top of the stack going down.

The strongest unit for the particular application (att or def) goes first.

The weakest units only have a chance to get promoted when the Army redlines.

Load order is irrelevant.

Yes, after I posted I paid a little closer attention to the battles, and I noticed that the unit icon changes as the Army fights a given battle. In this case I had an army with two archers and two spearman, but they were loaded in staggered order (archer, spearman, archer, spearman). However, when I attacked I first saw the icons of the two archers, and then the icons of the two spearman (when that particular battle had gone rather badly).

So, I concur. Load order appears to be irrelevant.
