I should be getting my CM4 mag in a few days. I'll start a new thread with lots of info (and screenshots from the demo disk if I can get them) as soon as I can.

Good idea, just in case i cant get my copy at the shops. Although the screenshots will be posted at sigames.com on the same day as the magazine. Not sure about the "2D rolling demo" and the 01/02 update though.

This was posted today on sigames.com:

Quote:
We'd like to confirm, as has been reported by the city today, that Championship Manager 4 will be released in February 2003.
We would like to make it clear that although we had been hoping for the game to be released this year, we had to make the choice of cutting out a number of features or giving you the best game possible. We chose the latter.

The game's development is currently going extremely well; you will get to see the game for the first time this Thursday with the magazine and we hope that you like what you see as much as we do.
oh hell!

Well, it's a shame we have to wait so long, but they really should be applauded for resisiting the urge to cut some features and rush the game out for Christmas. Hopefully this means the game will be even better than we all hope it will be come February.

Ideally the game would be released at the start of a season - so that you don't feel out of date when you play it.

Given the choice between February and next July, I know which one I'd prefer though.

I have just received this statement from James Binns, the publisher of the Official Championship Manager magazine, due to news that I received around an hour ago.

"Future Publishing has had some problems with mailing out the copies of Official Championship Manager Magazine and regrettably some of the Magazines may be a few days late hitting your post boxes – they should be there in time for the weekend. We know how excited about this magazine you are, so if you really can’t wait then get yourself down the shops and buy the magazine. When the magazine comes in the post simply return it to Future Publishing and they’ll give you a refund.

Meanwhile customers outside the UK and Eire have a different problem. Due to a licensing issue we have been unable to export the covermounted CD-ROM that we had hoped to include with the issue for all territories outside UK and Eire. With this in mind we have billed any pre-order customers £1 less than originally expected."

Basically, although I'm not meant to say this (but I'm FUMING, so am going to anyway, and sod the lawyers for once), we've been a victim of our own success here. I know that it's not going to help anyone get the magazine quicker, but the demand for the magazine has shocked Future (it's going to be the 2nd biggest selling football magazine in the UK) and their distribution are having problems coping.

Some people may well get it in the morning who have pre-ordered, but it's very unlikely. But please read the statement VERY carefully before replying to this topic as most of the answers are given in there - if you want to buy one at retail tomorrow because your pre-ordered one doesn't turn up, then, when the other one does turn up, just put it back in the envelope, return it, and get your money (and postage back).

The cover CD issue has been mentioned before, but they've come up with a solution which was meant to happen in the first place, so you'll all get your magazines cheaper, and all the coverdisc content is available to download from www.sigames.com anyway.

I ask you all to please be understanding with what's happening here - none of you are going to be as disappointed that this has happened than me, and I am horse from shouting at people for the last hour to try and sort it all out, but the statement we have here is the best that we can do given the short notice that we were given by Future's distribution company.

Thanks for reading and your continued support of Sports Interactive.

Cheers

Miles
Ill see you down the shops then

Believe it or not I'm trying to get a job with Future Publishing at the moment, but they won't take me.

Maybe I should try applying to their distribution
department ... if they need someone to tell them that the CM Magazine will be super super popular then I'm the man!

Those idiots .... erm .... I hope they aren't reading this ....

The sigames server is being destroyed by all the traffic. I can't get on, and likely will have trouble doing so all day.
It's even worse than this place will get in about 4-5 hours time when the US wakes up.

I've got as far as the front page.

They've posted the screenshots. 61 of them!

Everything is still extremely slow, though ..... this may be more trouble than it's worth...

I just read that the interface is actually "skinnable" ala winamp, that relieves some of the early disappointment.

Very good news. I'm sure there will be alot of very cool skins available a few weeks after release.

That's a clever feature!

I still can't connect to the download, there's just too much traffic. I don't have a 56k modem so when I do finally get through the download should go (relatively) smoothly.

Thanks, but I'm not registered there.

Maybe now is the time, though.

EDIT: What?!?!? The administrators have to approve every new member. It won't let me access the forums yet. This will take ages (especially with all the traffic today).

EDIT: i've started to download them both now. The screenshots are already 25% through, but the movie is about 40MB so will take a while. Thanks again.

The new 2D match engine.

Less than spectacular I'm sure you'll agree. However, the crucial thing is how it looks running. The video I'm DL'ing is only at 7% though...

From one of the other screens it looks like it is possible to only view the highlights (there's a VIEW 2D HIGHLIGHTS button, anyway).

You can also watch the game in Real Time if you feel like staring at your computer screen for 90 minutes..... some people will, no doubt.

damned, i've reached my DL limit , have to be carefull for the next couple of days, since I only have about 60MB to spend before being thrown to smallband(14.4k)

I did get all the pics though

It does look alot like cm3, but I like the 2D view alot ,
only hope they can get it right.

some off the mirrors still work btw

hope my account is still active

Reminds me of the "Football Manager" I used to play on my Amstrad 15 years ago. I loved that game.

I think I had that for the Spectrum .... it kicked ass.

I've seen the video now, it looks much better running than it does in stills.
