Since I'm already in the army, I would have to say knowing what I know now, I'd run off to Canada, or better yet just feign insanity.

I'll be 50 in two weeks, so I really couldn't care less. Perhaps I could join the elite unit known as the grey panthers.

Uhmm!
It depends!

If it is a war started by my country, or where my country is an aggressor, I would flee to Switzerland (they are never at war, so I don't risk anything)

It is a defensive war, I would VOLUNTEER in the army

WHat the hell is "Selective Service" anyway?

And I'm with VG, if I flee to Canada, I would get drafted. So I'll just flee ... nowhere?

Well... I flee to Canada to serve, or to hide in the vast wilderness... so flee to Canada covers all options for me.

I'll just stay in New York. It's a pretty vast wilderness all on its own.

And thanks for the link, Dino.

Hmm, seems I would have had to register, even though I'm a Canadian on a temporary work visa. Good thing I'm too old.

Honestly, it depends on why the war is being fought. If the US is being invaded or if we're doing the invading.

It doesn't really matter. You should have had a banana option for us 4F types. Asthma keeps you out of the service.

I have an army commission (infantry) so no prizes for guessing where I'd go.

I'm an old fart now and given my current employment I'd probably end up in the intelligence corps or a staff offcier, either way with a nice little office doing pretty much what I do now and posting here

I already know how to draw all the little army symbols on maps, answer a telephone and draft orders so I'd probably be posted here in the capital and live at home.

I'm also an expert at delegating work to others, officer's mess culture and long lunches. Nice war for some

It doesn't matter, the age of massed infantry is over. Any massive mobilization of troops by anyone would be nuke fodder. I wouldn't go fight a foreign battle unless there was a truly evil super power comparable to the Nazis or Imperial Japan waging war against the US.

I would probably get into some area of electronics and communications, possibly tech support for weapons systems or surveillance, intellegence, etc. My skills are too valuable to be wasted as a foot soldier. There are enough men 18-26 pumping gas who would be better suited.

I'm steering my entire life to the point where no matter what happens, I'll be safe in my laboratory, healthly funded by various means.

In case of war, I'm the guy making the better mousetrap.

I'm too old for the armed forces.

Besides, isn't war profiteering considered an essential service? I could avoid the draught that way, I suppose.

Frankly, no matter what the cause, I will tell the armed forces to go to hell. If they don't want gays in peacetime, they can't have them in wartime, either.

What about the Coast Guard?

Next best thing is the Navy, so that's what I chose.

The courage of many people will falter because of the fearful fate they see coming upon the earth, because the stability of the very heavens will be broken up. I'm with you Boris - I don't care what the cause, conscription is immoral, and by extension any nation trying to use conscription is immoral as well.

I would never serve, if forced to do so.

There would be a slim chance of me volunteering, if it were in my own self interest, but I fail to see how that's a possibility.
