Air Force.........they get the best food and housing. Army? Why would I want to be cannon fodder?

I was - I'm ineligible now because of the pins in my arm.

However, I was doing that as a "Help David get ahead" thing, not a "Serve my country" thing. I decided that the risk of going into combat was low, and the possible benefits were worth the risk.

Yes, I could've ended up in conflict, but I doubt it, and this was one of those situations in which it was in my own self interest to take the risk.

If the US was at war (and I don't mean this bullshit War on Terror) I wouldn't even consider it.

If was taking place in the middle of a continental land mass, then he would join the navy.

sava, tech support?

"the missile won't fire? um... have you tried taking off in the plane?

have you tried pressing the missile fire button?

oh, hm.. have you tried arming the missile?

well, then, is the missile connected to your plane?

well, in that case, it's not a hardware issue. there must be something wrong with your finger."

======

seriously, i'd try and join up with the shadow government agencies that run the whole damn thing anyway. barring that, maybe be a electronic warfare technician for starfleet. beats being a puny stormtrooper.

In the Navy!

Just to be different, the Army does appeal to me somewhat.

Oh, and if they started drafting and I was out of college and not married I would join pretty dang quick so I didn't end up a groundpounder.

I don't understand why everyone says draft dodgers are cowards - it takes just as much, and probably more, courage to go against the flow than it does to go with it.
That runs doubly true for the COs in WW2 - in my book, that took far more courage than fighting the war.

If I was fighting to defend my homeland, I'd fight. If we were fighting an aggressive war (which would be unlikely to conscript anyway) I would almost certainly object, in a concientious manner. If we were fighting to defend a colony, I would fight, but join the service least likely to get me killed.

Yea, I can imagine how much tougher it was to face all those disapproving looks. My uncle had it easy, just kicking back for the most part. I mean infantry training isn't that hard right? Especially when you spend a couple of years doing it. And he only had to fight in three campaigns, Guadalcanal, Saipan and Okinawa. Guadalcanal and Saipan were long sure, and Okinawa was intense, but I'm sure there were some long and intense stuff going on with the COs. And of course my uncle had to deal with killing people, his friends getting killed, and his unit shooting up a few civilians accidently one night. That was pretty tough, but he only dreams about that woman screaming once a month now. And hey, the combat guys got all the dames, so that's some consolation. Unless you were dead, or in my uncle's case in the hospital for 8 months right through the end of the war and beyond trying to fight off a serious series of infections from your wounds, the worst of which takes off a couple of inches of the business end of your manhood while the rest of the country is celebrating. But you're right, I'm sure it took more courage to be a CO.

I know that some of the COs served in hazardous situations etc., and I know it was hard, but it's hard to be a soldier in combat too, it's hard for a moral man to kill. It takes a lot of courage.

I'd go for Army for the simple fact that I'm a psychology major and getting my bachelor's in psy, I'd automatically outrank my cousin (who I consider a brother) and for the fact that I'd like to mess with our enemies minds.

Oooooh, my psycho powers will make you do as I say!!!
