Presidents report for 1400
K, here is what we did between the years of 1450 and 1400

End of 1450
Traded World Map and 130 gold to France for Mapmaking
Bought Territorial Map from USA for 4 gold
Bought Territorial Map from Germany for 13 gold
Bought Territorial map from Persia for 13 gold
Taded Mapmaking and World map to Iroquois for World map
Traded World Map and 5 gold to England for their World map
Traded Mapmaking to Aztechs for Worldmap
Sold Worldmap to Germany for 85 gold
Sold Worldmap to France for 131 gold
Sold Worldmap to USA for 70 gold
Traded Worldmap and 5 gold to Rome for Worldmap

1425
Fortified second archer of the first army with the first archer
Warrior near persia moves west
Warrior in jungle NE of us goto BHQ
Warrior nw of Germany go se (there was confusion here)

1400
Apolyton builds archer (3 turns)
Worker s of tassagrad moves se
Warrior near persia skips turn(blocked)
Warrior NW of germany moves NW (to explore, confusion ends here)
Spearmen from Apolyton goto army 1 on mountain north of BHQ

Summary:
Overall, the major achievment was getting the world map, with most of our continent visible. This told us the USA dont have any iron.

RANT!:
However, there were major issues with how we reached the map-trading decisions.

It took us about 40 minutes to end the year 1450. That is unreasonably long. The explanation? We didn't have clear and optimised deals from the FAM, so everyone present had to do his job for him. The problem with that is we needed to quickpoll every trade. Sn00py couldn't help unfortunately because we was not available to play. Its not his fault totally by any means. But this is PRECISELY why I am against having ministers poll on every decision. it took 40 minutes to end a turn that was practically finnished as it was.

In my opinion, we can make changes here.
1: when the foreign minister decides he wants to make a trade that involves more than a handful of steps, we stop the turnchat.
2: If the foreign minister has a period inbetween turnchats to decide on these trades, he should be provided with the power to make the deals before the president does, and then provide the president with either the sav or the complete trade list.

Now, we also had problems moving one perticular warrior. Again, since the appropriate minister was not available, we had to do some minor polling. The immediate reaction once we got the world map was that all exploring warriors should immidiately return to home so they can be used possibly in either the war, or as garrison. So, once your president starts moving the warriors back individually, suddenly its decided that one warrior should explore the coast cuz there are a few unexplored tyles left along a nearby coast. This becomes exclaimed after hes been moved away from the coast of course

What happened here was a lack of propper communication. We can fix this by managing a better chain of command, or possibly a better way of organizing non-ministers in turnchat. Normally it would just be up to the SMC to move the explorers, but since the non-ministers did it threw quick consensus', there was a waste of time and confusion.

So, we got 3 turns done in just under 90 minutes, and we wasted a turn with a warrior. This can be much improved as I have said. We can easily shave 35 minutes off with better organized trade-systems. And we could have been more efficient if the chat had a better structure to it of how we make decisions without the ministers.

Im open to ideas on how to fix some of these inequities, and I will happily take pointers on what else needs fixing. I admitt i made some wording errors, but nothing so serious as to threaten the nation. Nothing threatened the nation really, but we need to get this stuff done faster.

In my current state of mind, turnthreads for every turn might be faster, but still that involves waiting for every minister or consesus. But atleast once we GET those orders, we might be able to get the orders done on the spot, rather than waiting for every 3rd day or so to play 3 turns.

Ninot- in this month during which you are president, do you intend to sort out the forum so it is much easier to find information and for people to keep up with the game in general? If so how is this going to happen and will the election process be cleaned up by next month? (so that the election is less of a joke!!!! )

Well, i dont wanna keep anything under wraps. If the government has problems, I know it is best we solve them together. And I know I very well could have been a problem, so Im not affraid to have the blame pointed at me. But if it is, I will defend myself if it is not blame I should be taking. know what I mean?

Though I haven't yet participated in a turn chat, so I don't really know what they're like. From context I have gathered that they are where everyone gets together and begin to discuss which moves and actions to take, with the ministers and pres having the final word. If this is the case, then perhaps it can be organized so that the executive members state their plans for the next turn and then the citizenry could just state their opinions and suggestions of those plans. The ministers and such should take consideration of what is said, but after some time they should make up their mind (taking into consideration the criticisms of their initial ideas) and choose their final decisoin for the actions that they control. Then they can state what they finally chose to do. Just some ideas, I'll probably be posting more as they come to me on this matter.

Kaptain KruX! Did those basta... er ... friendly nice, all powerful mods make you change your avatar? I am deeply saddened by this - no matter the reason...

Kman

EDIT: trading maps was a good idea, now we know what kind of a predicament we're in. We needed a good idea of our relative position in order to well plan our long term decisions. What are the odds that we start off in the worst place. I mean, out of, what, potentially 16 starting spots? But the map allows us to plan our our way to the rop - biting, scrathing, pinching, and taking groin shots every step of the way. Its the only way.

Hey, Uber. Did you notice that the maps we obtained did not reveal any area in the ocean near apolyton? That means that there is a very good chance we have some unoccupied land near us.

I wouldn't get too optimistic, since all it really reveals is that it is in no way connected to our conitnent and no one has boats yet. Keep in mind there are still four civs that are not yet accounted for.

Fragant Valley is NW of Boston, when you follow the river. It's a bunch of hills surrounded by mountains.

(I definitely prefer Fragant Valley as a name)

Ah, thats where I want to go, fragrant valley (spiffor, that is close to the pic I have and want to show, though mine is zoomed out). If I were playing this game alone, myself, my basic startegy would be to swiftly conquer the Americans and move NW towards flagrant valley and the grasslands (and some iron) to its west and a ton of gold to its north. I would 'abandon' my crappy starting location and move in these directions quickly, siezing them with mass produced settlers before other civs could. But all this mind you, after I conquered the Americans with many a archer. One of the suckiest things about are starting location is that the jungle all but negates our UU, the war chariot, because it can't pass through it without roads. What are the odds?

Kman

I think in the last 3 games I've played, I've always ended up conquering America first...strange. I wonder if that means something?

We may need settlers to close the gaps of autorazed cities, after the war we can build in the valley to get hold of the incencse and the iron, however this city will be completely corrupt, maybe if the FP is built later on, it could become a productive city later on in the game.

I'm wondering why all this people has placed their cities so close to us, in the middle of the jungle. I don't know much about AI strategies, but seems to me they are trying to soffocate us. I mean, the iron and the horses are in another direction. So, what is Philadelphia doing in THAT place? It's an annoying place to found a city. If I'm not wrong, Philadelphia were expected in the plains NW Washington. With horses and iron. Maybe the AI have some plans to us...
Philadelphia seems an obstacle, it's exactly in our way to the capitol.
Am I a paranoid? Of course!
Rheims is the same thing. Jean have space to expand in SW, crossing the mountains. But no, she's coming in our direction...

What!? Why not!? We should conquer them now and fully assimilate them into our civ. Unless there is something that Im missing, we should just take care of'em while we're at it so we needn't worry about them later. I would think our Supreme military commander to be a bit more ambitious! But then again, your the boss...

In my experience I've found that the AI tries to cut off my expansion. So if I start on a peninsula, they'll try and bar me on that peninsula at all costs. I have seen this many time cause my I love to play rome on a world map and the Russians always try to keep me from expanding out of Europe (I usually conquer France and Germany early on, like what we're trying to do now wth America). They have all of Freakin siberia to expand to byt always push into Europe, everytime, as far as they can before expanding into Scandinavia and then Siberia once thats filled. This works out in their favor first by weakening their neighbor and potential enemy (because their kept small), and if there aren't any other nearby civs, allows them full reign of the territory beyond, cause it sure is hard trying to pass settlers through another civs territory without having to recall them or face war. It is a good tactic and I use it alot myself. When Im Rome I usually try hard to cut greece off and keep them isolated until I can build something to defeat their hoplites (even after they get galleys, I clog up the straight of Gibralter with my own and colonize north Africa, so they get stuck).
That is my analysis from my experience.
